Looking for opinions and or recommendations by make and model for AR-10's for big game hunting. I'm thinking .308, due to the fact that I reload and have tons of components.

7mm-08 or 308 are great in the AR10.

Depends on how much you want to spend. MEGA makes great 308 rifles and uppers and lowers to build your own.

If you plan to hunt with it, stay as light as possible. If you aren't careful it's easy to end up over 12 lbs with a mount, optic, and full magazine.

I've had a couple of the previous generation Lite Hunters (7.9 lbs) and they are also a good choice. Still not the rifle I grab for a long hike.

Keep in mind that magazines for hunting won't be real heavy since you are limited to 5 rounds for big game.
Rainier Arms puts together some nice kits too. Customer service is top notch too.

Remington R25 in .308 is hard to beat for the price. Not sure I would want a hunting set up less than a 20" barrel.

I, and two other friends have Smith and Wesson M&P 10's (.308). I have been getting just over moa and my friend is getting sub-moa. No complaints at all and I was sold on the price and reviews. I added magpul's PRS stock, MOE grip, MOE hand-guards. NF sits on top.

Just watched the TNP review you linked. 8lbs 3oz with an empty mag is very good, and the light profile barrel is not an issue for a hunting rifle.

Here's a picture of my Lite Hunter in .260 Remington. It's currently set up with iron sights only for High Power competition.

I use a DPMS 3G1 .308 with a Swaro 1-6 scope. Its an awesome combination for in close hunting.
Using an AR10 in one of the bigger calibers is a great option.

I must have been remembering some old rule that got changed. I remember having to place a plug/stopper in an SKS ( almost 20 years ago) I had set up to hunt blacktails with limiting the mag to 5 rounds.

Same here, 10 or a 17 round mag in a Grendel. Warden just asked me to drop the mag, he glanced at it in my hand and that was it.

Sig 716, it has a factory gas piston installed. Big time reliable. After you go gas piston you won't go back.

As mentioned they are very reliable rifles but the Sig 716 is 9.3 pounds empty for the 16" barrel version, 10.6 pounds for the 20 incher. Add a mount, scope, and few rounds and it's a boat anchor.

I handled the PISTOL version and was really surprised by the heft.

If you plan to hike more than 500 yards from the truck, a DI gun with a light profile 18-20" barrel and a plain jane tube handguard seems like the way to go. I have a couple that are set up this way. They are plenty reliable and reasonable to carry.

My Ruger SR 762 weighs in at 8.6 pounds for the bare rifle. Accuracy is OK, 1" to 1 1/4" at 100 yards depending on the load.

Which big game are you looking at hunting, do you have any AR10 platform already or are you set on having it??

Someone else mentioned it in passing, but if you already have AR15 you could build a 6.5 Grendel upper for one of your existing lowers. Grendel has great ballistics, shoots a little flatter than 308 out passed 3-400yrds depending on load. 6.5mm is big game legal in WA. Smaller gun format could let you keep the gun lighter as well as less expensive to build.

I shoot a lot of 100gr a-max out of mine. Inside of 500 yards the lower BC vs heavier bullets is not a big deal to me, and recoil is almost nothing.

Yeah no recoil issues at all, another big plus to the grendel.

Got my grendel out for the second time today, put another 20 thru it so only 40 total. $300 brownells 18" barrel&Bolt, $60 BSA scope, $65 ALG Defense Combat trigger, Hornady 123G Amax. My shakey self behind the trigger and it still shoots subMOA with barely more recoil than an 556 AR.

Thats why I shoot a 264 mag, its not an AR though.
My AR is 308 and 6.8 SPS.

Can someone tell me what a Grendel carbine does for ft lb of energy at 300 to 500 yards. IMHO a 243 isn't much of an elk gun let alone a Grendel at 500yards. I was read a gun writer said a 1000 ft lb of energy for a deer rifle. My 500 yard elk rifle says Weatherby 340, when you want to reach out and touch one.
