AR-10 Hunting configuration

I use a DPMS 3G1 .308 with a Swaro 1-6 scope. Its an awesome combination for in close hunting.
 Using an AR10 in one of the bigger calibers is a great option.

I must have been remembering some old rule that got changed. I remember having to place a plug/stopper in an SKS ( almost 20 years ago) I had set up to hunt blacktails with limiting the mag to 5 rounds.

Same here, 10 or a 17 round mag in a Grendel. Warden just asked me to drop the mag, he glanced at it in my hand and that was it.

Sig 716, it has a factory gas piston installed. Big time reliable. After you go gas piston you won't go back.

Agreed.  SIG 716 if you're on the cheap, if not step up to a SR-25.

As mentioned they are very reliable rifles but the Sig 716 is 9.3 pounds empty for the 16" barrel version, 10.6 pounds for the 20 incher. Add a mount, scope, and few rounds and it's a boat anchor.

I handled the PISTOL version and was really surprised by the heft.

If you plan to hike more than 500 yards from the truck, a DI gun with a light profile 18-20" barrel and a plain jane tube handguard seems like the way to go.  I have a couple that are set up this way.  They are plenty reliable and reasonable to carry.

My Ruger SR 762 weighs in at 8.6 pounds for the bare rifle. Accuracy is OK, 1" to 1 1/4" at 100 yards depending on the load.

My vote would be for a Larue PredatAR 7.62 if you want accuracy in a "lightweight" AR

Which big game are you looking at hunting, do you have any AR10 platform already or are you set on having it??

Someone else mentioned it in passing, but if you already have AR15 you could build a 6.5 Grendel upper for one of your existing lowers.  Grendel has great ballistics, shoots a little flatter than 308 out passed 3-400yrds depending on load.  6.5mm is big game legal in WA.  Smaller gun format could let you keep the gun lighter as well as less expensive to build.

Whatched a 16" Grendel carbine this last season jam a Mulie in the dirt at 303 yard and a Bull Elk at 411. Same carbine has a one shot stop on a Mulie at 496 yards. It can be done but I'm leaning more towards a 6.5 Creedmoore on th AR10 platform for this coming season.

To keep it light any thoughts to an AR-15 in 25 WSSM.  I've even heard of 6.5 & 7mm WSSM's
