Shot Show 2015 A few highlights
« on: January 28, 2015, 11:16:21 PM »
Hey everyone,

Just wanted to do a small right up of a few things from the show. It was my first time in Vegas and the shot show. Me and my wife decided to make a vacation out of the trip since we have not been on any in a long time. So we spent 7 days in sin city. Let me tell you what it's a huge show. It took us 2 days to go through everything. I think if you had your running shoes on you could go through it in a day but a guy would miss a lot.

I am not much for pictures with celebrity's since I have met a lot of the out door industry people already at other shows. However I did get to meet doug koenig and the miculek family. Which was very cool as I have watched them shoot for many years. I also got to vist with abner druckenmiller for FoxPro and got talked into a picture by the wife. Really nice guy and had a good time talking with him.

Ok so here are a few of my high lights, there was so much great stuff I just wanted to hit on a few things that grabbed my eye.

Bolt action rifles: Sako is putting out a new rifle that I am in love with. The carbon light. It's going to be running the 308 based rounds. They are doing it in 7mm-08 which is what I will have to have. It is fluted stainless and comes in at 5.3 lbs!!! It's going to be a great choice for a light weight back country gun.

Rimfire: Has to be the very rare CMR the carbine version of the PMR. I have been trying to get one for several years since I first caught wind of them. They are in production now after the name change. I was told Trijicon was going to sue them over there first name for the gun the rmr. So now it is the CMR. The first ones are hitting gun broker and like most keltek guns going for way way way more then they are worth. I can wait to get my hands on one. Maybe 2 of them lol.

Triggers: I am really excited. I talked to timney and there big unveil was a new trigger for the ruger American rifles! Why the stock trigger is ok this new trigger is amazing. I was lucky enough to get to buy the one they had there on display so I am jacked to put it in my predator and start shooting it.

Knives: Way to many to list. I was impressed by a lot of the new knives from some of the custom makers there.

Pistols: The xd mod.2 is a big improvement over the gen 1. I think a lot of people are really going to like it.

The star of the show was Coonan with there 357 magnum 1911. I love there compact carry model. The full size model is nice and also will shoot the 38 special with a spring change. The compact only shoots 357. They are very expensive over the full size model. I really thought about getting one but I am not a huge 1911 guy but this one was very very nice.

I also really liked the strike one pistol it has a very nice balance to it and I think they might become a fairly popular choice as they become more available. The 9mm is on the market now and 40 is coming soon. Followed by 357 SIG.

Revolvers/shotguns: Not much that really grabbed my fancy.

Sights. Hiviz has a new fiber optic sight for the xdm models that I think a lot of people are really going to like. I know I will be picking several up. They also have a new fiber optic front sight for the 22/45 light series of pistols.

I picked up a suppressor cover that I really likes the looks of and I think it will preform well. I will do a write up on it when I get a chance.

So that is a few notes of the show. That I thought I would share and a few new item to be looking for.

I really like the fit on them. Compared to the standard 1911. They have a little fatter grip on them and the trigger in them is really nice.

Tikka had the new CTR out this year  Kinda a mix between the tactical and the standard t3. I think I will have one in my safe before to long.

Carp noted the gun highlights. I would also like to say the industry is looking at things for women. I saw a lot more hunting apparel  and shotguns. Guy guns have ducks/geese/dogs etc. the lady's guns have roses flowers they are all in shorter length. Photo of a 20 ga Syren very nice shotgun.
Carp next year sent me a PM and we can hookup for a brew or?

Pretty sure you don't have to be a FFL or LEO to go. Just have to be a vendor of some sort.
My stepdad went to the show. He just went as a vendor through Seattle Skeet and Trap.

No you don't have to be. You can apply to go and as long as the feel you are connected to the industry you can get approved. It's just not open to general public and you have to apply and be approved.

Thanks for the summary.  A 1911 in .357Mag??  Very interesting.  And a lightweight Sako in .308.  I will look for this.

There are several ways to get a pass, FFL holder or work for a dealer/shop, press pass (even a internet blogger works), or affiliated with a vendor such as a sponsored shooter/hunter.

I go every other year and its a great time.

I'll vote for runamuk or smozzys girl to hold the bail money.
But after a long day at the show, all I want to do is have a beer and crash. My typical day is up at 0530 shower then coffee and a cigar by 0700 then breakfast and catch the shuttle and arrive at 0800. Then work the show from 0830 until 1600 and catch the shuttle back a quick beer and burger  then crash.   :twocents:
