Wall Tent Modifications
« on: April 08, 2015, 09:29:54 AM »
I have a Davis Tent that I bought last year and I made a couple mistakes when I ordered that I would like to correct.

The first is that I ordered a 5" stove jack and wish I'd have ordered a 6" I'm getting bit on the nesting pipes that start at 5" and grow to 6"

The second is I didn't order rafter sleeves, I have the ridge sleeve but to add a cook shack on the front for when both my sons are with me would be ideal.

Does anyone know of a canvas shop in or around the Spokane area that I could take it too and if not who would be the closest one that is recommended?  My thought is to have the roof jack opened up and a couple of sleeves added.

Thanks,
Jason

They aren't exactly close to you but I would highly recommend Yakima tent and awning. They did some work for me and the customer service and quality of work far exceeded my expectations. They were the closest to me in the tricities. But I would travel a lot farther if they were farther away just to use them.

We had a tent that was damaged by a bear several years ago that we had fixed last year.  we took it to Mild to Wild Upholstery on Sprague.  They were much more affordable than the other shops we explored that work specifically in canvas.  We could have purchased a new tent for what the canvas shops wanted to repair.  We had a new stove jack put in the roof portion as the wall version was torn out by the bear.

we purchased the stove jack online and delivered it to them.

We were very happy with the end result of work.

Don't know how soon your looking at wanting to get it done but i just purchased a tent this winter from Davis an h told me that if I wanted to add or change anything about the tent that you could bring it to the sportsman show an give it to them an then pay to have to shipped back but like I said obviously if your wanting it down before this fall that wouldn't be a option.

The problem I'm having is that if the stove runs a 5" out put and you use a tapered pipe that each piece fits inside of the next, the diameter of the stove pipe at the top is 6".  I didn't see that one coming or I would have ordered a 6" hole in the tent.  I may end up just going with straight pipe and get them to fit inside of the stove hopefully.  I'm using a kwik Kamp stove, several guys I know are using them and they all love them.  It was between that stove and a fourdog/threedog stove but I have connections near where kwik kamp is located so I didn't have to pay shipping.

Are you telescoping the pipe out or taking the sections apart?????

right now I'm taking them apart.  If I put a 6" stove jack in I can use the telescoping pipe.

My tent came with a 5 " stove hole. But it is marked with dotted lines if I want to go 6 inch.  You cant cut yours out?  Maybe your is the hard port?

The nesting pipe is nice to store in stove...but the price of a new stovejack vs. straight 5" is the question?  probably cheaper to use straight pipe and easier to get apart when needed...F.O. Berg in spokane..think theyre still around.  Steve

When I checked with F.O.Berg last year the business model had changed.  They have changed hands and had split into two companies:  Berg Premier camp solutions, which was heavily vested in government Camp systems www.bergco.com  and Vestis Systems, which is focused on retractable awnings / sunshades for residential and commercial http://vestissystems.com/
