Sitka Jetstream Jacket vs. Kuiu Guide Jacket
« on: February 02, 2015, 09:38:09 PM »
PathfinderJR is looking at hunting jackets.  He found the Sitka Jetstream on sale just about everywhere for $265.  I looked at the Kuiu Guide and they look very similar to me, except that the Kuiu Guide is only $199.  Anyone on here have an opinion?

Does anyone know if Cabelas has the Jetstream in stock?  We are going to be in Olympia for a rifle match this weekend and if they have one he could try it on.

I have a jetstream vest and a 90% jacket. I think the guide jacket is more like the 90% jacket. I might be wrong. The jetstream is a windproof layer and is therefore not as breathable as a traditional soft shell which is what the 90% jacket is.

I have the Jetstream jacket and love it. It's not loud when moving it's pretty breathable. The windstopper is nice when it's a cold morning. It's not full waterproof but it definitely keeps me dry on my duck hunts. I have quite a bit of Sitka gear but I do plan on getting some Kuiu as well later on down the road.

I'm sorry did you say crinkle crinkle :chuckle: If you don't mind a hood on your jacket go with the Guide. Guide is slightly heavier weight than the 90% if I recall right. Love my Guide jacket and the rest of my Kuiu.
Shut up and Hunt!

Both are very good quality and thought out well.  Sleeves on the Jetstream can run tight, but that probably doesn't matter on Jr.  The Kuiu is a better jacket if you like to wear wool underneath.  It also has a more sensible collar - still too dang tall for the archery hunter but sensible in comparison.  And for me the Guide jacket has a quieter shell and better camo option - especially since Sitka dropped the Jetstream in Forest .  But I do like my Jetstream stuff a lot when I find myself in the right situation to wear it.  I do find I wear the vest a lot more than the jacket.  I'm sure he will be happy no matter which he choses.  Both are excellent.

I like the fact that both are easy to cut the hood off of.  Hate the fact I buy a $200 jacket and take the scissors to it before I ever step foot in the woods.  They are performance jackets and not rainwear for goodness sakes!!  Then again, not ever wanting to be a gang member, I hate all hoods.  Never found a need for one outside a rain jacket during a blowing/pounding storm.  And even then I find I rarely pull the hood up.  Isn't that what hats are for?  Those hoods are really good if you like taking plenty of pine needles, willow leaves and snow back to the truck with you - Doh!!  Suppose a cleaver hunter could use the hoodie it to carry his lunch and ditch the fanny pack :chuckle:

He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

I would personally choose the Sitka Stratus jacket over the Guide or Jetstream if I were to buy just one. I own them all. :twocents:

I love my Guide Jacket. It's my go-to jacket for day hunting. I wish I would have got it in a solid color so I could wear it as an every day jacket. I may get one just for that. Very comfortable. I haven't worn my 90° jacket since I got the Guide.
