Open carry on Oregon Beaches
« on: February 04, 2015, 10:59:43 AM »
I was wondering if anyone has any insight as to the legality of open carry on Oregon beaches. From what I can gather open carry is allowed unless a city specifically passes an ordinance against it. I guess my main question is whether beaches are considered parks. That doesn't seem to be the case. Thanks for any tips and yes I do plan to get my Oregon concealed permit
I should mention my purpose would be walking on the beach at night. I don't have any intent of open carry on a busy beach. I just know in the past, especially the farther down the coast I've been I've encountered some questionable characters.

I always thought most beaches in Oregon were state parks  :dunno:

Doing a little looking around it may come down to the specific area you are in.

Open carry of firearms is legal, but for those who do not have a concealed handgun license, cities and counties may regulate the open carry of loaded firearms in public places. Localities that prohibit non-licensed open carry of loaded firearms in public places include: Astoria, Beaverton, Independence, Newport, Oregon City, Portland, Salem, Tigard, and Multnomah County.

That's one if my main questions. I know some areas are clearly parks while others
I'm not sure. I'll keep looking into it. I found an article
About an Oregon resident who carries his pistol and AR
Because he can. Sounds like it's legal but not necessarily
not encouraged. I prefer concealed carry, so time to follow
Through on the Oregon permit

You could also easily call one of the local PD's for the area you will be visiting. Simply ask.

Let us know. I was down there last summer in Canon Beach. I chose to not carry and felt confident in the area we were at. However, I was wondering so post up with what you find out.

Just out of curiosity under what circumstances would you open carry on the beach?

When you can’t conceal your weapon.

I was thinking more along the lines of Lincoln City or Gold Beach out walking at night.
The only reason I was asking about open carry was because I don't have a concealed
Carry for Oregon. As you get farther south some of the beaches are more remote and
seem to have more issues with transients etc. I wouldn't see a need to carry in Cannon beach etc or daylight hours

I guess because he can >:(
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter
