Got hit by thieves
« on: February 04, 2015, 04:50:52 PM »
Lost 4 trap to thieves. I am running a 48 hr check on my line and sometime between Monday morning and this morning they got 3- 5x5x24 folders and 1-6x12x30 folder with wings, that one was brand new. My suspects are bowfishermen as there are arrow shot carp on the bank now that weren't there Monday.

I had traps stolen in your neck of the woods by duck hunters.

Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

I have had duck hunters take them here before also that is why I waited till after hunting season to set this area. Doesn't seem to matter to the non-trapper folk "Hey look! someone forgot a trap out here, I'll just take it home with me."

I would bet 90% of the traps stolen end up hanging in someone's garage or barn and are never used again.
Only other thought is I found a couple of stolen snares hanging in trees where they had been thrown once. Sometimes a vigilante type will throw them in the drink. Might keep and eye on the bottom if the water is clear.

Usually it doesn't do any good to dwell on it. They're gone and you'll never get them back. :sry:

I lost a handcock in a small town I was trapping in. I checked before work, it was gone. Called every one I knew there and when I went back after work it had been returned right next to the dam where it was set. I got really lucky someone returned it.

I've just moved on and up the stream. Since the traps were stolen I have caught 9 rats and 2 mink in the general area. Staying away from the open bank areas mostly, that is where I am catching the mink.
