Gearing up for sea duck
« on: January 12, 2009, 06:10:49 PM »
Painted up some decoys for scoter hunting.

Question for viewers???

Does it hurt the brant hunting if you have sea duck decoys mixed in with your brant decoys.  Or is it better to set up with strickly goose/ brant decoys if you are targeting the brant.

Thanks

Gotta love them triple curl scoters, lol, good idea for old duck dekes.

I heard if you set the scoter dekes on the outside of your brant dekes with the two seperate groups of brant closer to the boat creating an opening.

With that many drake's all bobbin' 'round together,if I were a duck, I'd be afraid of dropping in on a rainbow party or something. ;) Seriously, good question, hope you get an answer. Nice looking deke's.

My hunting partner did most of the painting on the decoys.  It's always good to use the old ones for sea duck hunting especially when the scoters fly low between gang rigs.  Several of the decoys have been foam filled to keep them floating.

Sea ducks are better served in a batch of peperoni or heavy marinade.
