New Hunter - Could use some help
« on: December 19, 2014, 08:45:20 AM »
Hi all.  I'm a 39 years old career soldier stationed at Fort Lewis that's never hunted a day in my life.  Just completed the hunter's safety certification process and now I'm anxious to give it a go.  I know its out of season for a lot of game, but I'm interested in trying out what is available this time of year: duck, rabbit, etc.  I'd love any advice on what / where to start and would love to tag along and pick someone's brain if possible.  I love anything outdoors and expect this to be yet another obsession of mine.  Any help at all would be much appreciated!

-Scott

Welcome to the site, thanks for your service.  No doubt someone will step up maybe for some duck hunting or coyote hunting.  I am an archery deer and elk guy if you are looking for ideas on that send me a PM(private message) by clicking on that icon under my title.

And you are right hunting will probably become an obsession.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Thank you for your service!
If you haven't seen this yet, in the waterfowl section, there is an "Open Seat" thread.  Check it out, let everyone know when you're available, I bet you'll be catching a ride pretty quickly.  If you're ever around central WA  (Moses Lake, Potholes) send me a PM.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm liking this forum already.  About a month left of duck season, I'm hoping to get out there.  Your advice is much appreciated.

Hey!  I am about to post the same kind of request.  I'm just starting out hunting myself, and we're about the same age.  I live in Seattle, so we're not too far from each other if you're interested in working together.

I've only just started the process of getting the Hunter Education course completed, though.  I bought a Mosin Nagant M44 that I'll probably use for hunting.

Anyway, it's been a few months since you posted this, so I hope everything is going well for you!

Marco
