I hunted with a Leupold 2x scope on my TC Encore handguns and a Millet Red Dot on a Ruger Super Redhawk 44mag. I would not go any higher magnification then 2x on Rifle cartridge handguns. Revolver type I would stick with a red dot scope. What type of handgun are you planning on hunting with and what game are you planning on hunting?
Nothing like a Remington model 700xcr.

Pistol hunting with scopes, boy is that hard to do. I have shot deer with my 308 Encore and I'll tell your from my experience, practice, practice and practice. I think it's one of the hardest ways to hunt, but very rewarding. EOTECH type of sight might be the best way to go. You don't have to get everything perfectly lined up with the stars. From what I've heard, it's like a point and shoot. I've never owned one because of the expense.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............
