What is this?
« on: February 01, 2015, 09:39:21 AM »
Last Summer our neighbor and family friend passed away. His wife asked me and my dad to help clean the garage out, because she was selling the house. I found this in a box and was wondering if you guys might know more about it. It is just the receiver, no trigger. A quick research showed that a complete rifle from Peru is a little more rare than some other Mausers

I'm no expert but it looks like a Mauser action to me
https://www.howlforwildlife.org/take_action  It takes 10 seconds and it’s free. To easy to make an excuse not to make your voice heard!!!!!!

Looks to be a Peruvian Mauser action fairly simular to several Spanish Mausers I have. I have a 7x57 Spanish Mauser I have had since I was 15. It was a 39.00 mail Order rifle my grandfather purchased, hunted with and handed down to my father when he was young. In turn he handed it down to me, spooky accurate with 140 Accubonds. My father had the safety reworked and the bolt handle reworked. Many times I have chose to carry it over other rifles I have. Especially since my Grandfather and father have both passed.

Looks like a good project? Let me know if you don't want it? The beginning of a great rifle right there....

Take a look at the Pac-Nor web site. Look through their "Wildcat" & "Standard" chamberings. Send that action to them and have them barrel it up.

it's a Peruvian 98 mauser.  Large ring.  Nice action.  It used to have a very high charger hump that was filed down (and well done, it looks like) to FN Commercial mauser profile.  Would make a nice rifle in pretty much any standard length cartridge you want.  worth about $100-150.  To make a really nice custom with a scope, gonna need a new safety, a trigger, polish, blue job...

Nice M98 for a rebuild.   Numbers do not match so it is about a $100 action.  I will buy if it is for sale.

Similar to these, I have a box full for future custom rifles:

Top is a 1936 Mexican  Bottom is a Corona M98

Looks identical to the 95 mauser I have.
Will buy it if it is a 95
It's not true that I am good for nothing---I can be used as a bad example!!
