Don't mean to hijack this thread, but the Sheep permit numbers took a serious hit. down 6 from last year for all, with 3 given back to disabled. Impossible has become even harder to draw. yay!

There are very few easy goat hunts.
I'm 52 and feel I have a few years left to at least accompany someone on a goat hunt if they dont run me into the ground
I ended up shooting this billy solo in the now closed Pratt River area in 84.
Steep and deep to say the least.
Knowing what I know goat hunting should always be done with a partner.
Good luck in the draws this year!

Great looking billy, I applied for the Pratt River area back in the late 80's or early 90's just before they quit handing out permits for the whole Mt Si area. In the spring you can still get above lake Loch Katrine and get up close to some goats up there, just no permits handed out. Guess I'm going to have to contribute to someone's gross annual income to get a goat now.
Where did you get the Dall in your avatar?

Alaska Range back in 2007.
Wood River drainage to more more exact.
It was a once in a lifetime trip and felt blessed to been able to do it.

What do you mean by limited access. Wilderness hunts. Have to put boots on the ground.

I did read the posts. There are trail systems. Climbers trails. Bushwack. Could have gone up the backside via Mildred Lakes Trail. I have hunted the area before for deer. So I know the area.

Ok, I must not have been as clear with my other posts as I thought. Bushwacked, tried climbers trails I found referenced on mountaineers websites, was communicating with other guys helping other tag holders that went up the Mildred lakes trail and determined the back of Pershing was vertical and inaccessible. Wasn't the access I EXPECTED from hunting other wilderness areas with more extensive trail systems, like Norse Peak, Alpine Lakes, or the Pasayten. There won't be a next time so I guess I don't have to worry about it again. Thanks for the input. Ken

Wish I saw that you had this tag before now. Would have been glad to have helped you out.

I dint mind the depredations category but I don't think the hunt should count as your once in lifetime goat either than. If this is a damage hunt only then just have an entire separate category completely unrelated to the oil tags. Too many people will get drawn this way and just hunt if it's convenient or hunt for a trophy only and pass on goats that should be culled if it's still a once in lifetime goat.
I submitted a comment to that nature and would encourage others to do so too.

Not sure if the scenario you present would happen. The chances of getting drawn again after being drawn for the conflict tag are still miniscule, so I think people will still want to harvest a goat, trophy or not. All it really does is give more chances to be drawn.
