Thoughts on Toxic Broadheads?

I have seen the Toxic Broad heads and have heard good and bad reviews on them. Have watched videos on them and how they shot.
Me personally they look really good and could leave a big hole, thinking about trying them out.
Just wondering what is your thoughts on these??

I met a guy last year that was shooting them and they seem to fly like a dart.  They whistled something fierce..... and for that reason, I would not shoot them.  They also tear up targets. 

It's a pass for me.   I will stick to my slick tricks that fly like darts, are silent and leave amazing wound channels.

They are only good for shooting through thin walled empty 55 gal drums.

I bought a pack of them on an impulse buy last year just to shoot them and see what they were all about. My normal broadhead is a Shuttle T Lock. The Shuttle T and my field points hit nearly the same place and those Toxics were low and right and much less consistent. They also destroy your targets. Another thing to consider is that if you do make a poor shot and wound an animal that wound is much more likely to get infected and be a problem for the animal because of the kind cut it makes. I ended up using them as grouse broadheads. I'm sure they'd do the trick if you hit the right spot but your money would be better spent on something not so gimmicky and reliable.

Don't forget their superior performance on milk jugs.  If I ever book a trophy #2 Jug hunt those are the heads I'm taking

That's a MUCH better broadhead, IMO!!

I bought some a couple years ago.  They flew like crap at 20 yards.  I could only imagine how they were at longer range.  They sit somewhere in a tool box.  I will finally get to use my Grim Reapers it looks like

A buddy decided to try them last year due to how cool they did on milk cartons or some other plastic thing. I warned him not to, but he did...Called me right after elk season, singing the blues, seems that he shot a cow at 18 yards with it and it only went in a few inches. He swears he hit it good and it just didn't work...Shooting Shuttle T's now....

Wouldn't waste my money. Given the chance that you make a bad shot and cannot recover the animal.... More than likely due to the size of the wound channel the animals going to die, out of reach.
Nice sharp blades will do more then enough to take down any animal, Bad shots though the animal still has a chance to recover due to the surgical style cut of a nice broadhead.

What's going to heal better after a bad shot, a cut with a scalpel, or a hole from a cookie cutter?

I shoot Slick Tricks.  If I didn't shoot those it would be Trophy Taker Shuttle Ts.  Both are awesome broadheads.

I really like franken broadheads like gravediggers and such.  Theyre a combination of fixed and mechanical.  Ive been working on my own version.

I have killed deer and elk with savoras, muzzy mx4, NAP, Slick Tricks, Wasp 2 blade, Shuttle t's, rage and Montecs.... any head with a well placed shot works great.... so far for my money the montecs have been the best... very durable, easy to get crazy sharp... and accurate. Next would have been the slick trick magnums. I have no desire to try those things you asked about.

Hopefully that's not what you're using in WA, if you're in WA. Mechanicals are Illegal here. Check out the hunting equipment regs for archery. Last year it was page 78. "It is unlawful to hunt big game animals with a retractable broadhead."

They are expected to be legal this year.  Check out ToddID post about archery changes.  From what I hear it's all but a done deal.

The Toxic curved blade broadhead was the worst for accuracy that Bowhunter magazine tested and the Toxic broadhead that supposedly cuts 3 holes will clog in hair and fat just like the Browning Serpenine did in the 70's. Re-invent the wheel? No, just re-inventing the flat tire in my opinion.

I seen those at a store today; weird looking, not very impressed. I'll stick with Wasp, or maybe try some Savora broadheads.

I am a novice bow hunter. I have only shot one arrow at a bull elk or any animal.  I used a toxic. It was quartering to me at 34 yards. It went in right behind the front shoulder, travelled all the way through the animal and came out in the back paunch then into the hip and through that too.  The bull went 90 yards and piled up. 

As I statec, I am no expert but it killed my bull.

That's some impressive penetration for any broadhead.

Here is the bull but not that great. First archery kill and I got no photos.  The small black dot in the shadow is where it exited and then went back in to the hip. It passed through and I recovered the arrow on a bush about 15 yards away.

It's been interesting watching the traffic at shows the past few years.  First year Toxic was at a show they were within eye shot of us.  That booth was CRAZY busy!  I have no idea how much business they wrote, but it was a busy place and everyone there was all shoots and grins.  While I wasn't able to get away much at this years ATA show I was once again within eye shot of the Toxic booth at the NABA.  They had a very nice, beautiful young lady working the booth and yet I think I heard crickets each time I walked by.  My how a few seasons have changed everything.

Of course, January and February shows are never huge business for broadhead companies.  But it does show a definite interest change in the company or product line.  I had figured I'd see much more just from the fact their new turkey head looks rather cool.  And the name Tom Bomb I thought was a good name for it!  Harry Grim with Bear and First Lite was right beside them.  I guess one could say that First Lite's new selection is so fantastic and interesting that no one could concentrate on anything else when they went by.  I know it had that effect on me

Still with an interesting new product, nice booth, nice packaging and a very nice young lady working the floor I expected to see more movement from dealers.  Quite shocking IMO.

BTW - You performance camo gurus need to keep your eyes on First Lite this year.  Their website has not been updated yet, but the new performance clothing line looks like the freakin' answer to folks, like me, who have been wearing Sitka and Kuiu despite the camo patterns.  First Lite's new stuff looks like it is going to be just as good as the big two PLUS the new Fusion pattern looks fantastic!  I know I'm going to be dropping some serious change in their bank account this year   X2 if and when they have ladies sizing for the wife!

Couple of notes:

Mechanical broadheads are legal per the 2016 posted hunting regs on the WDFW site.

I did some testing on these broadheads since I moved to WA in the last 18 months.I was first very disappointed that crossbows are not allowed during the archery season in WA, so I switched over to a compound bow to continue to take advantage of the longer season. I was concerned about the slower compound bow not properly activating my mechanicals, so I purchased some of these Toxic broad heads (as well as some cheaper knock offs for target practice) and have been comparing them to the accuracy of my field tips. I was gaining confidence with the broad heads as I was practicing almost daily in my backyard range @ 30 yds, but when I started using the Toxic, I was unpleasantly surprised! At 30 yds, they are consistently 6" + off target, but inconsistent in which direction they are off target....this is completely unacceptable. As an engineer, I felt that the curved design would be less affected by planing and therefore more accurate...BOY WAS I WRONG! After a full month of testing, I still cannot obtain any accuracy with these broadheads and I am glad I didn't take them to the field.
I am going back to the Grim Reaper Mechanicals I used with my crossbow, and I also applaud Grim Reaper for providing a practice head with each package of 3 mechanicals! makes dialing in the bow so much easier!

you are right about that camp pattern it looks awesome.  I did just listen to a podcast the other day with the first lite guys sounds like a full women's line should be coming out soon.
