Definitely intense!

I think this was a male as they are smaller than the females and he didn't seem much over ten pounds.  He did not try to bite me, luckily since I had to get pretty close to that beak while putting him in the box.

The one back in 2006 was a lot fiestier, though I knew what I was getting into with this one.  That one got me good with it's talons.  Here are some photos of that one.

   For all the good it did....     I got a call this morning relaying a message that they put this eagle down.  They said its wrist was too shattered to do anything about it.

I just find it really hard to believe that there is no place that would be interested in taking in an otherwise healthy eagle even if it could not fly.

I wonder if things would have been different if one of the tribes rescued it?

Woodland park zoo has a small Eagle sanctuary blind injured otherwise unable to live in the wild.

Also the raptor center in Boise Idaho the one that has been instrumental in repopulating CA with Condors, they also have a fair amount of sanctuary animals and possible connection to other sanctuaries.  You might look them up and have a secondary.

Just an fyi it used to be zoo's that were known for taking in and using some of these critters for their education programs now days zoos for some reason are considered evil so I think people forget the contributions they have made to our understanding of some of these critters.

My thought was that maybe they are encouraged not to put too much effort into them so that the parts can be used by one of the tribes without the negative PR of them actually getting caught shooting one... but then I am often quite a cynic.   

I know it is expensive to keep an animal that may live a long time, but it seems money would be able to be raised fairly easily for an eagle.

How awesome would that be to have in a grade school science class!! The kids would love it and could teach several generations of kids about Eagles.
