Cougars vs bobcats
« on: February 21, 2015, 04:57:02 PM »
Just wondering if having a cougar come into an area would run out any Bobcats in the area. I had a picture of a bob cat on my trail cam and havent seen him in a while and now just got a picture of a cougar. Thinking maybe the bob moved to a new area

I commonly find cougar and bobcat living in the same country. They make circles through their territory every few weeks, often they travel through within 200 yards or less of the same route, good chance the bobcat will pass through again in a few weeks, same with the cougar.

I agree and I would add that bobcats will feed off a cougar kill when they can (and may follow cougars for this) and cougars will kill and eat bobcats whenever they can catch them.

No Bobcats and Mt. Lion overlap all the times.  I would think the smaller cat would stay out of its way but wouldn't leave the area.  Like fox, coyote and wolves they always overlap too and stay in the area, they just learn to stay away from one another.
