Yes just depends on where they are at in the bredding cycle. Have had them gobble over 100 times and come in spitt'n and drumming. Other times come in with out saying a word. We dont have the populations over here or the hen problem yet so some time during the season you will find a tom that will work.

I've called in hot birds from a mile away before, gobbling all the way. Most of the time it's two to three toms without hens. When they get it in there head to come nothing will stop them. I've also called them from 600 yds away and they come to a 4 strain barb wire fence and it stop them in there tracks, they stay on the other side a gobbler there heads off and never cross. Go figure. I've shot toms and after the shot his buddy jumps and spears him while he's down.

That's turkey hunting when they want to die they will do crazy stuff. Other times they wont budge that's what makes it fun. I called in two long beards easterns for a friend that has never been turkey hunting before and the fought right in front of him for a couple minutes then he shot one. He didn't appreciate the hunt like i did he thinks its easy now. The easterns over here are more call able around the first of May.

That's right you take someone out who has never hunted them and call one off the roost first thing they think that's it. The last few years I've snicked up on the toms I've shot because there all hen up. Sense I moved over here to the West side I don't have time to scout, but if you scout and find there strutting area's, you can set up there with your decoys and call, most of the time you will score right off the roost. But once you think you've got them figured out they do something off the wall.

Where on the west side? Do you still hunt over east? You are right as soon as you get cocky and think you have them figured out they will make you look stupid.
