Long Range Play Day
« on: February 21, 2015, 09:01:14 AM »
Had a little time recently to do some shooting at distance with my hunting rifle.  Target was at 1417yds, 180VLD at 3150.  Load is pretty stable with 1" of vertical.

The top 4 shots measure 5" wide x 1" tall, I adjusted let the barrel cool and shot the last 2 rounds centered up and they measure 3" apart.  Not to bad from a 10.5lb hunting rifle.

The 180's are a great bullet. At that distance it was a perfect wind day. ;)

It was a pretty calm day, with about a 5-6mph right to left wind

But you missed the middle!  :chuckle::tup:

5" of horizontal is great at that range, 1" of vertical is down right impressive!

That's why I don't shoot actual groups that far away. I'm fond of saying that I can "hit" stuff way out there, just not consistently.  :chuckle:

Don't ya just love it when ya finally find the load that is in your rifles sweet spot and you can hit consistantly from long range.

Nice shooting and doping by the way!
Spent most of my $$ on huntin, fishin & retrievin dogs, the rest I just pretty much wasted.

Travis, you're sandbagging. That's typical of your shooting  and rifle building skills.  I've seen you and Jesse do that consistently.
So pardon me if I sit here and yawn.. :-)

You know Jim, it's better to be humble and be able to shoot, then brag and not be able to shoot!  Forums have enough of those type already  :chuckle:
