Fresh matched set and interesting find
« on: February 21, 2015, 05:13:29 PM »
Went on a nice hike today and was lucky enough to find a nice matching set. On the way out we found a relatively recent buck carcass with one antler sawed off. Kind of odd they only cut off one...

Looks like it was shed in the picture; hard to tell though. Looks like I am looking at the pedicle.

The last pic the antler is still attached to skull and the other was sawed off. There was still hair around the pedicle like someone skinned it...  :dunno:

Looks to me like it shed the passenger side then died. (For whatever reason)  The hair around the base is what the birds and other preditors couldnt get to.... Or else i have found alot of skinned dead heads lol

99% sure it was sawed off. I picked it up and it was a smooth clean pedicle.

X2 on the shed, if it was sawed you would see saw marks, the face of pedicle looks dimpled, this is where the normal separation would occur.  :dunno:

I think Bigfoot killed it and then used one antler for his toothpick :chuckle:
