WA goat auction tag

Someone may have already posted this, but the WA goat auction tag went for $26,000 last night at the Seattle Sportsmen's Convention.  The prior record was set last year at $15,500.

There has to be more than 1 tag in a unit so if it makes only 1 tag, then yeah, closed.

That was the only actual tag being auctioned.  Of course, there were many outfitted hunts of all shapes and sizes.

The surprising thing to me is how cheap some of the Africa hunts go for.  If you wanted to go to Africa and did your research in advance to confirm the outfitter was a good one, you could get a great deal.  One Africa hunt last night had a listed value of like $11K and went for $300.  Another went for $900.

Westside elk will sell next weekend at the other SCI banquet.
Moose tag will sell at the sheep show March 7th.

Crazy how high it went this year!!!  I had always hoped to buy that tag some day but I fear I will be limited to the draw now.

$26.5K it went for.  There were a few high bidders there last night.  I imagine it will be hard in the near future to ever pick the tag up again for under 20K but who knows...  Its gonna be another fun season watching goats this year

It was also great that the WDFW head for Special Species,[ Goat, Sheep,Moose and Antelope ] attended the fundraiser to help promote the Goat auction tag. That was a change from the past. That same individual will be on the ground helping out with Antelope surveys this week. He really seems to be some one who cares, and is involved in what he does. He really needed these funds from the auction tag to assist in doing more Goat surveys. Last week he was collaring sheep in 3 of our units to better monitor them and collect data.

I wonder if hunters in 1969 complained about the drawing being so late in the year. How did these people have time to scout and schedule their time off from work if they were successful in the draw?

They didn't have anywhere near the trophy value they do now. They were more like coyotes - shoot them as pests if you happen to run across one while hunting for deer or elk.

26,000 for a goat tag, wow.  I can only dream of being able to spend that kind of money on any tag.  Congrats to the lucky guy/gal who can have that opportunity!  Hope you kill a record goat.
