And to think that in the 60s they essentially gave these away over the counter for $5, and now the tag goes for $26K.

I wonder if hunters in 1969 complained about the drawing being so late in the year. How did these people have time to scout and schedule their time off from work if they were successful in the draw?  :o
They didn't have anywhere near the trophy value they do now. They were more like coyotes - shoot them as pests if you happen to run across one while hunting for deer or elk.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

26,000 for a goat tag, wow.  I can only dream of being able to spend that kind of money on any tag.  Congrats to the lucky guy/gal who can have that opportunity!  Hope you kill a record goat.
