whitworth .22-250
« on: February 22, 2015, 08:30:13 PM »
I have an opportunity to purchase an unfired mark x whitworth in .22-250. The owner is asking 380 for it.  I know that these are pretty good guns but I was wondering if this was a fair price and how these compare to the new ruger Americans in the same caliber.  Thanks!

It is an old school rifle made of Blued Steel and Real Walnut, they are handsome most I've dealt with have shot well.  They are a modernized Mauser 98 with side safety, modified bolt, adjustable trigger(mine was), control round feed, monster extractor and pretty nice craftsmanship.  My old Mark X Mannlicher stocked 270 was an incredible shooter and finally went to a fellow doing damage control work.  Bad part, they are heavy, I'll bet that the one you are looking at is at least a pound heavier than a RA .
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Thanks AWS. What about that 380.00 price tag? Does that seem fair for that rifle?

Not bad if you like the gun, they don't have high resale value and the market isn't hot for them but they do look good and usually shoot well.  It likely has a slow twist so plan on it being mainly a coyote gun.

Thanks everyone. I looked at the gun this evening and ended up passing on it. It was a bit on the heavy side and needed some trigger work. I think I might just get a new Ruger American for about the same price with a synthetic stock (critical for where I live).
