Pictures are hard to show the true pickle it's in. Every day I drive by there it still makes me pucker up in the seat :yike:

He needs to find a buddy with a cat to pull him out of that spot.

I know some of the guys who dozer fire line, they go down some steep ground, but there is a reason this ridge had a hand dug fire line.

What would stick out more?  A stuck red Jeep or a stuck red Jeep and a stuck dozer? :)

Lots and lots of tow straps, a winch and a couple rigs anchored up top still wouldn't do it? Be a slow process but seems like it's doable and cheaper then a chopper.

A snowcat might do it  :chuckle:

A lot of folks keep saying to drive it out of there. Like JH nimrod said, You would need a beast of a rig to make that climb back out.....if all went reasonably well.      OR      the guy could roll it trying and scatter parts and fluids all the way down the hill to the orchard below, increasing the damage and more than likely ending his life.

Here is a picture taken from the other side of the river that might give you a better idea of the magnitude of where the jeep sits. This ground is not hard, it's soft, loamy, crushed granite, the kind of stuff you take one step up and slide back two.  The red X is basically where the two track dirt road ends, the red circle is where the jeep sits, yellow line is basic route of decent.

So I'm confused now. Do the tracks prove that he got in the position by driving UP the hill or did he come down from the road at the top and then turn around somehow to try to drive back out?  :dunno:

Can't imagine turning around on that stuff...

I think I'd just get a gas powered capsan winch, have a buddy pull rope and I'd drive the jeep back up.

plenty of rock outcrops to anchor the winch too,  take some air out the tires would help a ton.

He came in from the top and it looked like he tried and failed to turn around once or twice before he found a hump he could pull onto then reverse off to be pointed back uphill. That was as far as he got. It looks like he spent quite a bit of time spinning his wheels trying to ascend again but all he managed to do was slowly carve trenches down the hill. He went backwards about 30' while trying to go forward, kind of like being on an icy hill and sliding backwards even though all four wheels are trying to go forward.

First off, I do not condone what this jack wagon did, and this is going to   :stirthepot:

BUT

you all sound like a bunch of  :tree1:

Its dirt and sage brush, not a meadow of lushes grass being fed on, or the middle of the feel area for deer wintering deer in 2 feet of snow.

Get that thing up that ridge, and have the dumb arse take a shovel, some seeds and take care of the dirt he disturbed.

Rent a dozer and get ot out of there....jeesh......

And you gusy would be suprised what a capable jeep can get through or up  :camp:
I 100 percent agree with this post. It's not the huge deal these guys make it out to be. No need to try and ruin his life.

BS, it's all critacle winter range and the dip sh@ made a conscious decision to ignore that fact and go off the two track. That is completely unacceptable and he should lose his jeep for the habitat restoration. :twocents:

The state is not in the used car business.  Fine him and make him rehab the the damage to a condition acceptable to a state bio., at his expense. JMHO

 Really? :chuckle:

You are clearly in the dark then, it would blow your mind how much the state makes on drug seizures.

State can seize if it becomes abandoned. Untill then it's still a stiff fine

I realize they make a bunch of money from seizures but the stuff goes for pennies on the dollar.  In this case I don't feel they would get back enough from the sale to cover the cost of rehab of the habitat to original condition.
Crappy thing is, neither confiscation or responsibility for cost of rehab will happen if the RCW lists a fine up to $5000 as the penalty.

So what happens if he quits making payments and tells the lender to come and get it.

Now if that heap was a Rubicon with a posi and front locker he'd have a better chance to crawl out.

Pennies on the dollar add up! Even if the state spent the money to get this jeep out and then auctioned it off, they would be money ahead. :twocents:

Then it goes to the general fund where unneeded programs squander it away.
