I've been down there and going up isn't a great option and going down is worse. There might be a way on the south side of the ridge but it looks like it gets steeper then where he is sitting, and already has been, before you get to the bottom.

Can't figure the orchard owner getting too worked up about egressing through the land. Granted, it is private property, but I say screw that. If the owner happens to be that petty and not grant permission for the extraction (though I would probably deny if it were my property and if asked for for access due to liability), take your fine or trespass ticket and get on with your life.   Personally, I don't really care about landowner "rights", if it were my land maybe I would but it's not so I don't really care. I don't know him (her, them?) so am not really worried if I were to trespass except as it may impact my other liberties. If the repercussions are more than my benefit,  I would not trespass and the inverse is true as well in this situation.

Not sure  where this $10k for the helicopter keeps popping up. We used to rent a copter that would be real close, if not capable, to getting this rig out. We would do an all day charter (8 flying hours) and it cost not much more than $10k.

We use a heli crane that charge a 10k minimum.  I stated thi earlier so I think that's where it's coming from. 
There's a lot of insurance involved compared to charter type flights

Maybe Temsco is AK operated differently, which is likely with it being in AK, but we lifted boats, pallets of fish food, 48'x3' steel net pen walkways, bundles of lumber, fuel drums, etc. There was more than one load that the helicopter just could not lift. There were many others where we had to wait until the helicopter was getting light on fuel before we could lift it. We paid by the hour and chartered it anywhere from 4-12 hours annually. It broke down to about $31 per minute and I made sure the crew knew that if they were screwing off I was gonna start taking that $31/minute out of their wages😄

  Some of the guys I knew that would be involved with helicopter logging said it was crazy.  They would stage everything they could before the helicopters go there and drank a ton of water.  As soon as it was on the site, they were running back and forth as fast as they could.  Think it was every minute the helicopter was there less than scheduled they each earned a beer.

Amazing how many say they could drive it right out of there......but have not actually viewed where it's at in person.  Easy to be a master jeeper sittin behind a keyboard.

It is not going to happen by going uphill without assistance.

There is always a possibility that going downhill and to the south it could be done.....IF you have a serious death wish. This route would be a combination of steep downhill & sidehill at the same time. Think about it, why did the dude turn around if continuing to go down would have been easier.

It's just a run of the mill Jeep, not worth risking a life for IMO.

The 10k was for the first 4 hours.  Can't remember what it was after that. We never exceeded it.

How much cable would you need on a skidder winch to reach him from the top?  I've seen them winch some fully loaded log trucks up some real nasty stuff. If there is a straight line you'd think a Jeep would be child's play no matter how steep and slippery it is

He is a lot closer to the orchard than back up to the top. A couple people went down to visit it today. After a few more weeks the foot path will flatten all the tire tracks.

That's exactly what I'm saying.  With a Wrangler, you wouldn't even need anybody to be IN the car either, just put it in neutral and it'll roll forever.
