Huckleberry Wolf! UPDATED 4-19
« on: February 27, 2015, 08:55:31 PM »
I went out last week and put up a trail cam targeting wolves. Checked it today and this was the first picture on it, taken 2 days after I hung the cam.

Couple weeks ago a friend who was horn hunting found a fresh cow moose kill and two old sheep kills from last summer in southern Huckleberry. Then the pack found him and flanked him all the way back to his truck! He did not have a weapon to protect himself, it was not a good situation! :yike:

If you go horn hunting in the NE it's wise to pack a firearm these days!

Yes, that's right!

A couple years ago wolves followed a friend who was out walking. A truck came by and she talked to them and the wolves disappeared, she thought they were gone. After talking the truck left and she continued down the paved highway, pretty soon the wolves were back and following her, scared her really bad. She told me she never walks without a gun now.

I've seen two different wolves so far while out hunting. Both times they were beating feet out of there.

Right time of year for it (denning season) combined with walking up on a fresh kill...bad bad combo.

Guessing this would be the carpenter ridge pack. Or could be another unconfirmed pack? Haven't heard anything about these ones other than how they were named.

Not the best picture, but here is another one. Trying to get these things to hang around in front of the camera is proving difficult. I placed some wolf and coyote gland lure on the log but they don't seem to care about it.

The Trappers were saying you take a dog out and place a trap everywhere it pees. Because the wolves will come to check it out. Its worth a try.

I was waiting for the cell phone video to go up on the internet of a guy in ferry who was run up a tree by a lone black wolf..he filmed it once he was in the tree of the wolf snapping at him and growling.

I'm headed to the huckleberry this weekend for spring bear. I wonder if wolf activity messes with the bear activity?

Try using wolf urine (or even dog urine) on the base of a tree in front of your camera.
