Best entry level AR15?

I think if you built your own you could get a good quality trigger and barrel and go cheeper on the rest. $1K will get you a bunch right now...  Ask Loki How his built went he did a budget build here recently...

Yes I looked into doing a build and by the time I would of gotten everything together it would of cost the same if not more than I got the one I have coming.
Everyone says your can build one for less well as an example
Lower through a dealer in Wenatchee 225.00 then the parts kit another hundred $325.+
Then you start adding the cost upper and barrel together $600.+
Sub Total $925.+
then add your tax, FFL and dealer fees you're looking at a grand
IMO I could not see putting one together and being able to save any money over just purchasing a factory built at least not one with any quality. Oh I'm sure there are some out there that I could purchase for less than what I paid but probably like the one a friend got for around $500.00 then took back the next day because it was jamming big time.
I Shopped around and got the Stag Model 4 for $200+  under what Stag is advertising them for on their website if I'd of bought the lower and upper separate and put it together myself and almost $300 less than their Assembled Model 4.  I went with Stag for the name, style, lifetime warranty and guaranteed accuracy out of the box......
Sure I have to wait to get it but when I do it is coming from out of state and private sale.....

You can build really nice rifle for well under 1k. If you just want to buy one dpms and diamond back have some nice rifles in that range.

If you're talking about the gun without the scope, $1K could get you a pretty nice build, far nicer than off the shelf will get you.

I agree that it really depends on what you want to do with it.  However the prices you were given to build one seem really high to me.  If you don't need it tomorrow and can be patient I think you could build a decent rifle and have a scope for around the 1K mark.

Those prices are really high. You shouldn't be paying over a hundred for a stripped lower and I would never pay a hundred for a lower parts kit.

I think what really kills you is the freight on some of the "sale" items unless you buy a bunch of stuff to make it worth your while.

While searching for a buddies build I found a pretty good deal on a stock buffer tube spring and sling for $50 ish shipped.

Used you can normal find the hand guard and nut really cheep

That’s the cheapest AR that I’ve seen anywhere.  Thanks for that link. 

You are welcome.  I have a cheap one that I put together with a composite lower and a cheap DPMS upper, have $490 into the whole she-bang.  If you get parts sent to Sound Loan and Pawn in Everett, the guy there is super nice and only charges $15 for rifle transfers (and the tax hes obligated to collect).  I use that cheap setup almost all of the time, even though I have some real tack driver ARs.  It weighs next to nothing, I'm not afraid to hurt it (but so far I've tried and cant) and it still shoots about 1.5" groups at 100 yards and is my favorite Coyote/Cougar hiking weapon.

My $1800 24" bull barrel ar, with super nice two stage trigger etc sits right in the safe where I'm afraid to touch it.  I don't need to drive tacks, I need to shoot coyotes on the run.   

Unless you're doing competition, I don't see any reason why you'd do anything else, unless you just want to impress your friends or prep for the apocalypse.

I think I stayed under $600 (adding in the additional cost of the gift of a stock and LPK that Captain Silver generouslyaffered me)  I've got a Green Mountain Barrel and a (hopefully) high end BCG.  A higher end trigger would add a couple hundred to this but would still be under your 1K and you get the fun of putting it together.  I am quite happy with the feel of my Stag Arms stock trigger, though I am certainly not a "high end" shooter.  Tools for assembly can run about $100, but if you are nice, you might get them loaned to you.

I just got into the AR game myself. I was looking at building one, but I have too many projects going now, along with a newborn for the wife to give me the ok. I managed to get my hands on a Mossberg MMR hunter in 223. Paid like 725 after it was all said and done. Got a 3x9x40 on it for it along with 600 rounds of ammo for under 1000. Haven't had the chance to take it out yet, but so far I am super pleased with it.

I've got a New Frontier plastic complete lower on my 204. I paid $110 for it. Plum Crazy plastic lowers are pretty good too. That's if you want to save some $$.

The way it looks and feels as well as the price. Yes I haven't fired it yet, but it's an AR. It's the eleventy billionth variant of a platform that been around for 55 years. Like the 1911, the AR is at a point where the gun largely remains unchanged, because it works. Innovation at this point, is largely cosmetic.
