$1000 might make enough of a down payment to get the builder started,  does that count?

I'd build an AR in .308. Without the glass, $1000 would do a pretty nice job.

So many choices!!! I like the 300 rum option as well as the .375 option. I have a 375 h&h and have killed deer, bear, and moose with it as well as an elk with a different 375. It did a stand up job on all.
I also have a 300 rum and absolutely love it too!.
If i have 1k it would be going into a rem 700 of some sort.  :twocents:

I'd probably put some glass on the .308 I already have and buy bullets with what's left.  That would be spent "On a gun" wouldn't it?
I agree 308 would do the job just fine!! Anymore I would rather have ammo than buy more guns.

 :yeah:

these would be my choices 8)
.1 Smith and Wesson model 69 .44 mag
.2 I would add some cash and get a Winchester highwall safari hunter in 375 h&h
.3 Ruger single seven in .327 federal 7.5 inch barrel
.4 Uberti 1871 baby rolling block carbine in 38-55 or 45-70
.5 Henry big boy trapper in .357 mag
.6 again adding some cash a Sig p220 in 10mm

I take it back,  I'd get a kel-tec KSG.

I've been eyeballin' one of those for a long time, just haven't wanted it $1000 worth yet.

That was sort of my point.  A nice new gun with no good glass and no ammo isn't worth much.  But, an old gun ready for hunting season is a beautiful thing.  Even if it's chambered for the boring 63 year old cartridge.  Still one heck of an effective round!
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."
