I want to hear some of those :o

Quick +1 for discount tire.  Both tires were destroyed.  Because I bought the $20 full warranty thing on all tires, they were replaced for free.  I have to buy the $20 deal again, but not bad for 2 new tires.  Would've cost me $280 before tax and other fees otherwise.

That scares me stang. I was planning on heading that direction tonight. Ive got a cam out that way that i want to check and figured it would be a good time to give calling a shot. Hopefully i dont have any tire issues tonight.

good tires are priceless. I've had real good luck with Coopers. I buy them at Performance tire in Marysville. They have always treated me well and their prices always beat Les Schwaub on comparable tires.

I challenge your tires to this road...

Its sharp shale on top of hard packed base.  Its like knives sitting on concrete facing every which way and I'm driving over them...  $20 a tire is starting to add up though... along with gas.

Which gate is it on the map? I had the permit last year and the roads were excellent, for the most part....

I'm not saying that Coopers would never get damaged, I'm just saying for me they have proven to be good quality and reliable. I'm pretty sure I've driven the road in question, but it sounds like it is worse now.

Just giving you a hard time.

I'm not sure I know anything about grading roads, but it seems to me that you're not going to have a whole lot of luck grading a road that is hard packed 3" shale... Those things are like knives sitting on top of assault.  It doesn't seem that bad, but two flats on brand new tires within a week are what I'm looking at as evidence.

I'm more irritated that when I bought the tires.. I was like "how about those 10 ply tires... I drive a lot of forest roads" and they said "no, that is way overkill for your truck and what you're doing".  Well, they had to replace what were 2 basically new tires that would've normally cost me $280 with their warranty program.  I'm not sure if this hurts me more or them more.  I'm now a Discount Tire fan, aside from not buying the tires that I knew I should have bought...

Up on top the road is fine, the first couple miles up the hill are pretty bad.  Need a few more log trucks going up and down to pack it down, problem is the logging trucks up top are going out the other direction, so there's not much traffic in my problem area.

Taking the girlfriend out tonight, we'll see how much hunting gets done.

Went out last night and walked some roads and checked the one came i had out that direction. Nothing on the came. Went and walked the last road of the night and there were fresh peels everywhere. couldnt have been more than a day or so old. Set up and did some fawn in distress calls for a little bit with no luck. Walked about 30 yards to check a clear cut and there was a bachelor group of 4 bucks. 2 that were already trying to fork and 2 that were still spikes. Sadly no bears, but at least there was a bunch of sign.

Oh and I made it out of there without a flat. the road seems to be getting a little better than it was a week and a half ago, but still not great.

Stang....good luck tonight. Try and get a little hunting done.

Gallion...been back to the flamingos or rocks? I'm thinking of heading out Sunday to do some yote calling and cam checking by the rocks.

Well....I'll be able to give you a rocks/flamingo report. My plan is to walk in early am, set up on the rocks and use my decoy and let the caller do its thing. I'll check the cards and call/text with any recent bear activity.

I think the waiting and watching is valuable.  Its amazing how loud they are.  I think if its quiet (low wind), you can look over a clearcut for 15 minutes and just listen.  Bears are just not great at being quiet.  I guess they're about as clumsy as we are in a clearcut (big feet, big stomachs).  The ones I saw the other day in the cut were super noisy.  Makes me more confident in a 15 minute clearcut sit.

This differs from deer and elk where they can be napping in a clearcut and then wake up from seemingly nowhere and are right in front of you.   :twocents:
