Saw one tonight with my girlfriend. Didn't have a fantastic shot and it had rubbed its butt and was <150 lbs. Let that one live for another day. Hopefully I don't regret it mid June. The lock at Monroe camp road wasn't working right so we had to change plans. Anyone get that lock to work tonight?

Monroe camp gate lock worked great for me yesterday.

It was there and looked like it ought to work.  Tried the code about 10 times, tried it backwards just in case... rolled the wheels all the way around... nothing.  Let me know if anyone heads up there today with success.

Thanks,

-Stang

What's the code so luvy can get in?

Someone found one of my cams and gave it the bird....  :chuckle:

Not sure if it was a friendly joke or someone who would've stolen the cam if it hadn't been locked down.

Either way, there wasn't anything on that one so I moved it.

As far as bears go, I went out last night.  Saw one old buck that didn't look like he'd make it to the fall.  Must have no teeth left and sounded like he was hacking.  Starvation must be a heck of a way to go.  Going to head out again tonight and see how I can do.  The lock on Monroe Camp is a little shady and I'm afraid that I might not be able to get out, so might be headed somewhere different.  Last night I avoided Monroe Camp because I didn't want to get locked in.

I'm getting the itch though, next one I see might get the bullet, regardless of size (no, I'm still not shooting a sow with cubs, dont worry).

Would you have rather got the finger or the full moon? Could have been worse that's for sure.

Ill be heading out tonight to check my cam and put out my other one as well. Hopefully I can find something moving.

I think the waiting and watching is valuable.  Its amazing how loud they are.  I think if its quiet (low wind), you can look over a clearcut for 15 minutes and just listen.  Bears are just not great at being quiet.  I guess they're about as clumsy as we are in a clearcut (big feet, big stomachs).  The ones I saw the other day in the cut were super noisy.  Makes me more confident in a 15 minute clearcut sit.

This differs from deer and elk where they can be napping in a clearcut and then wake up from seemingly nowhere and are right in front of you.   :twocents:
:yeah: that's how I hunt them. Kick back in place I know they are hitting,  and listen. They always sound a lot bigger than they are. :chuckle:    I've been woke up from some pretty awesome power naps :chuckle:

You know....we got a thread for that.....put it up on the "people on cams" thread.

I'd really really like to help haul/skin a bear out this weekend. Please...somebody get 'er done.

went out last night and checked my cam that has been out. Has what appears to be 6 different bears on it. 3 different sized singles and then a sow with 2 cubs. They seem to be pretty streaky through that spot. Had bears pretty solid for about 2 weeks, then nothing at all for 2 weeks, bears for a week, then nothing has been back in about a week.

After checking that cam i ran over to Cambels ground and did some looking around. Saw one nice sized bear with a good coat... about 100 yards from a bait barrel. Needless to say he lived to see another day. After that I walked a couple old roads and glassed some cuts with nothing. I did find a promising place to put out the other cam. Hopefully when I get back from vacation both cams will have bears on them regularly and I can sit on them and have one come in.
