Free Guide Services

I don't look at this site too much during the off season, because of the constant bickering and arguing. I happened to check it out today and noticed that you guys had been talking about Luke again and assuming that he is taking some type of payment for his service. I'm not posting this to argue about your assumptions or to argue the fact that he should pay the $25 to advertise if you require it.
I just think that the harder the game department makes it to draw a quality tag in this state the more you will see these free guide services pop up. What Luke is doing is something new and exciting. I'm not sure about everyone else but forking over thousands of dollars for a guide is tough. I remember when I was a kid my dad and grandpa both told me that hunting is going to be a rich mans sport in the future and they were right and it's only going to get worse. My Grandpa guided hound hunts for bear and cat for years so I feel for the licensed guides but what Luke is doing is perfectly legal.
I've been applying for special tags in this state for the last 15 years and have only drawn one spring bear permit in the Tucannon! At this rate if I'm lucky I will only be able to hunt the blues for archery elk 2 maybe 3 times in my life (given that nothing bad happens). Why should I wait around for the game department to pick my name out of a overfilled hat to go on these hunts? If I was smart I would create an advertising scheme to get my name out there so that when people draw these tags in the area that I love to spend time in they will be able to contact me and see if I have time to take them. Luke is finding a way to do what he loves and help out fellow hunters without having to wait for his number to be drawn. I admire that and so should fellow sportsmen
It's my belief that these free guide services are only going to grow and it's one more thing that the licensed guides will have to adapt to in order to stay afloat.

This is stemming off the thread yesterday that got locked.
Luke Carrick is basically a guy who spends an inordinate amount of time in the woods and volunteers his time to go on draw hunts with guys for free.
This rubs people the wrong way, especially some of the guides on this site.
I've actually had a long conversation with Luke, and I totally get it. It's the same reason fillthefreezer is so excited I drew my Wenaha tag this year, or if and when another friend of mine draws an OIL tag. Just to go i those hunts is enough, and if I can lend my back or expertise Im in!
Good on Luke.
But I also understand the hesitancy for guys on here with the "to good to be true" mentality.
Keep on doing your thing man.

And.....
The rub for a few members is that the posting/linking to his website has been removed. See Dales comments. It seems very cut and dry and certainly doesn't need a whole 'nother thread to argue the point.

I'm not arguing a thing about Luke. This thread was started to discuss free guide services.
I just referenced Luke and Guiderite adventures because he is the only one that I know of that is doing this.
So I'm not to blame if this thread spins off into something else.

Why does Luke have to prove his innocence before he is allowed to post? :bash
: Never mind, I've been censored/warned on here before. Don't like the rules, don't log in, got it.

I caught a bunch of crap a few years back from Chinook outfitters for helping fellow hunters with peaches tags! Guess what Im still doing it.
Some people just like to whine......
Kudos for helping fellow hunters to this guy..

JM, why isn't Luke starting threads himself instead of you doing it? Offers to help someone get into critters are great and as RT mentioned, he's been a big help to a few members is that capacity. But without hearing from the guy personally and getting from him just what the deal is, it sounds suspicious and being that it's a guide service and not just some guy, has the potential to undermine the paying guide services who sponsor our site. It would be great if your friend could make an appearance and explain what he's all about. I would imagine it would go best under Partners, Swaps, etc.

I wasn't going to say anything, but I figure its Friday so I might as well.
I think that neither side is in the wrong or anything here. I think it is awesome that the guy offers to help people free of charge. If I had the chance, I would love to do the same thing because I just love getting out in the woods any time I can. The issue is not with what he is doing, but with forum rules as far as solicitation from a non-sponsor. If the guy just posted up a thing offering free help to anyone who draws and then via PM, text, phone call whatever, said "hey, I also have a website at xyz.com, you should check it out" then all is good and both sides are happy.
Carry on.

UPDATE
The Guide Rite Adventures website offers free guiding and has an advertisement to a website called Magpul Core which sells classes. So there were two issues to resolve, first to determine if Guide Rite is a legal and free guide service and second to determine if Guide Rite is selling classes and if they should be a sponsor.
The current policy of H-W is that private sales are free but commercial advertisers pay to be a sponsor. These sponsor fees pay for the monthly rental of the dedicated site server and the technical help often needed to keep the site running. We see all kinds of attempts by commercial endeavors to gain free advertising, so this is routine for us to check out posts that appear to be commercial in nature.
I learned that Magpul Core is the new name for Magpul Dynamics which is a current forum sponsor and owned by CalenW. So I contacted CaylenW and Lov2Hunt (guiderite) to find answers to my questions. Here is what I learned:
Lov2Hunt has a successful career so he offers the free guide service so that he can participate in a few great hunts each year rather than wait for himself to draw and go on one great hunt in his lifetime. Because I share the same passion for the outdoors I can see the motivation for him to do this. I've heard accusations but I've seen no evidence and Lov2Hunt says he accepts no compensation, so this is perfectly legal.
It's the policy of H-W to promote hunters helping other hunters therefore Lov2Hunt (guiderite) is welcome to post his offer for free guiding on this board:
http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/board,30.0.html
CaylenW informed me that he changed the name of his business to Magpul Core and that Lov2Hunt (guiderite) helps him with the classes. So the classes are offered by a current forum sponsor, that settles that issue.
That topic is now unlocked, please keep it civil.
