How many people hunt with something unique or interesting?

Not that there is anything wrong with the standard 308,30-06 or the various 7mm and 30 cal magnums with some big scope on them but it gets really boring to read or talk about.For me personally i am going to be hunting with a Winchester 1886 in 45-70 with peep sights this year as i was successful last year on a small buck with my muzzy.If i am successful this year i will be using a open sighted or possible scoped handgun depending on how accurate i can be.

45/70 works very well, I think you'll be happy with it.  I shoot it in my Ruger #1 single shot.  Trajectory and holdover can be a little difficult past 150 yards but most places I hunt I can't see that far anyway 

I don't know if you handload or not but the 300gr Hornaday hollow points at about 1850 fps work great on Mule Deer.

I do not handload yet but i plan to in the future. currently i am shooting hornady lever evolution 325grn @2050 fps.I used to have a Ruger #1 in 45-70 it was the light sporter i believe.I had a fixed 1.5 power shotgun scope on it.It was a great rifle and i regret selling it.

Rem 7600 in .35 Whelen with 250g round-nose handloads has got the job done for me on 2 elk (but no bear - so far) 

My dad hunts with a blr in .358 win i shot a 4pt whitetail a couple of years ago with it with buffalo bore 225grn xbullet @2550fps and that hit the deer like a ton of bricks was dropped on it. very impressive performance i can imagine the 35 whelen would be very similar

I take the .444 Marlin out every couple years.  It has thumped a few bucks.
