That most surely is what is known as a "Wampus Cat". Very rare animal of the South.

I am pretty sure I saw a picture of this same cat as a kitten.  I can't find the link now but I remember there was a ton of debate over what kind of a cat it was.  Still not sure what it turned out to be but this is obviously some sort of relative of that cat.
