Smack down pro v.s. qad rest
« on: March 14, 2015, 11:16:55 AM »
Looking to uprade to a fall away rest for hunting & I am torn between these two. I thought I was all set on a trophy taker but I was told that on draw down that it can be noisy. Looking to hear from some of you who have these & your opinion

What is noisy about it? I have had a smack down on my bow for the last couple years and don't hear any noise if I let down. If you are going to let down on an animal you are at full draw on, the motion you make is going to be far more likely to spook the critter than the sound of it, if you can even hear anything while drawing or letting down. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another trophy taker smack down, great rest.

I am  a QAD guy.  Never had a failure or problem with mine.  I have put them on my wife and daughter's bows as well.  No history with the smack down.

Flip a coin, both are great. Smack down noisy? They are one of the quietest dropaways out there. I like the qad hdx or ripcord ACE.

Tomato/Tamoto

SD easier to set up properly and a bit more durable.  QAD holds arrow nice and stays up on the let-down.  Have shot them both and both gave adequate results.  Short draw and light poundage I think the SD has a tuning advantage.  Many single cams and bows with low nock travel I think the QAD has a clearance advantage.  For me, of the two I like the QAD.  But I'd shoot either one if I could not find a RipCord or a DOA.

I have a qad and works great. My brother-in-law runs the smack down pro and seems to do a good job. I honestly have seen a significant advantage between with rest. im happy with the qad

My smackdown has proven to be pretty dang bullet proof. Also have some amazing customer service. I have never run a qad so have not much input on them

I usually hear that from dealers who do not stock them.  A lot like Chevy dealers talking about Ford and Dodge. :chuckle:

Hmmm :dunno:  I always thought my QAD was noisier than my Trophy Takers.  Neither being as loud as our old TM Hunters and we filled quite a few freezers with our PSE Jet-Flites and TM Hunters.  Probably bothers the mind of the hunter more than it effects the hunt.

BTW - The new RipCord Ace might be making a lot of QAD guys abandon ship.  Not sure if I'm big on the narrow launcher, but the rest is darn near flawless...for a lock down!  http://ripcordarrowrest.com/ripcord-ace

That new Ripcord has peaked my interest.

That new Ripcord has peaked my interest.

I will have at least one bow this year that has the new rest.  I'm not a huge fan of lock down features at it affects the smoothness of a quick follow-up shot.  That's the primary reason I left QAD years ago.  But for those who rarely get second shots it does have it's benefits.  I don't really have any reason to switch from the CodeRed, Hairy Hole, Hostage or the DOA.  But, something new is always fun as long as it works without fail.  And so far this rest is first class and very well built!

My Ace rest will have the older launch pad as again I often try to put a second arrow in the animal before I lose sight of him.  I just feel quicker on the draw with the larger launch pad.  I also feel as though it leaves greater room for error.  Though I have talked with a good number of people that are shooting this new rest and I just may be the only one who thinks that way :dunno:
