Sitka gear must haves?
« on: March 14, 2015, 06:21:27 PM »
I got my first couple pieces of Sitka gear a couple weeks ago. Looking at getting their merino series, a couple vests, and some other stuff over time as well.

Who else wears Sitka gear and what pieces do you like the most and why? Any items to stay away from?

Thanks.

I have a pair of the orginal accent pants from 07 I think. Best dam. Pair of pants I've ever had . Finally going to hang them up this year, there about wore out now but I wouldn't hesitate to buy those again. I'm switching all my clothes this year to another brand but I've run Sitka for a long time. Great gear

I've got a fair amount. I really like the Jetstream vest. Ascent pants are awesome. I don't like the Traverse hoody. Weird zippered collar that goes too high and doesn't wear well if you're not wearing the hood up.  That said, the Traverse is a great layer and I regret not buying the non hooded version. I have a 90% jacket but almost never wear when I'm hunting. Just haven't found a solid use for a soft shell especially in my backpack. Layers and rain gear if that extra weather layer is needed.

I have two 90% jackts and two 90% pants....they are awesome.  I also have some base layers.  I would not spend the money on the base layers again.  They are real nice, but you can buy cheaper that are just as good.  The beanie does not fit my fat head.  I like it for mild temps, but not cold.  It only covers about half my ears.

Beanies don't fit my oversized dome either. If you have a big head, dont bother.

Honestly, I have not been impressed with their stuff. The only thing I have AND like is their merino underware. Everything else I have been less than impressed with.

There is a lot more reasonably priced merino wool out there than sitka. I love my sitka gear but not paying their price for merino.

I agree!  Icebreaker and FirstLite are just as good and usually cheaper.  Very much the same fit too.  Could add Kuiu to that list if you are what they call an "Athletic Build" What fat old men like me call "a skinny little mountain goat bas&@*d!"

I like my sitka handsdown better than my firstlite merino. Just me. The first lite os too short amd wide in the torso for me. I dont care for the core series much... mine has the synthetic permastink...

Wha' :dunno:  Reason I did not like my Sitka wool, besides the fact it's wool, was the short cut.  Could never get it to stay tucked.

:chuckle: im just the opposite rad. My sitka stays put and tucked and my firstlite barely gets to my waste. I wouldnr complain if all the shirts amd pants were a inch or 2 longer tho.
