stuck breech plug?

Well you are not human if you dont mess up once in a while . I didnt put enough lubricant on the breech plug this morning and shot ~30 rds down the pipe today. My muscles are too weak to get it out and tried a hammer and an alan wrench and that didnt work.

How should I go about getting it out? Soak it in the tub for a while?

Hot water or break free or a tow temp torch/heat gun or vise

Acetone and ATF if it's rusted in.

Take the barrel off the gun . Put it  in a padded vice plug up.
Put on your plug wrench , if your wrench has a hole in end of it ,push a screw driver or metal rod through.

Put hot water or barrel solvent around plug. Maybe some dawn dish soap.

Twist plug out.

Still a problem. Fill a bucket with hot tap water. Put breech end of barrel in bucket 10 minutes. Repeat above.

Got it. It took the hottest water out of the faucet and a couch for leverage. Won't do that again.

If you need some excerise, I would recommend getting your bleech plug stuck. It made me sweat getting it out.

. I have not tried it yet, but heard to put plumbers tape on the threads when you put it back. Problem solved.  Not sure, but I'm gonna try it

I wish I could tell you it is 100% fix... but there are variables... that sometimes do cause failure.  I have not used grease for years and I believe the tape is the way to go eliminates some of the mess + works very well when you get the taping process figured out.

If you decide to tape -  I would still advise you to try cracking the plug back after 10 shots of so JUST to make sure.  Although that can even lead to some problems.

I THINK the biggest trick is to get the tape applied to a very clean plug correctly.  Then you really need to get the threads in the rifle clean also to keep the tape from tearing on the way in as you are turning.  After taping be sure and look down the bore and make sure you can see the tape all the way around the BP when it is seated...

I normally just chuck up a bore brush in a battery op drill and turn it CCW into the threads of the breech plug port.



Sometimes if there is a build up carbon in the threads I will squirt some bore cleaner on the bore brush to help it clean...

Gold idea! What size bore brush? Is it bigger than 50 cal? I use a breech plug cleaner on the plug, which makes it look like new.

A 50 cal brush should work I think I use a 20/28 gauge shot gun brush.

Try some high temperature anti-seize compound.  In my last job the company used this material on SS hardware that was subject to galling & autoclave environments, and Nickel-Graf compound worked very well:
