hunting idaho

So I have a buddy who is becoming an idaho resident and wants to start bow hunting for elk and im going to call for him for the first year or 2 while we learn the area then hopefully I will start buying out of start elk tags in the next year or 2. We are thinking of going in unit 4 I believe in the north east part of idaho if I was looking correctly. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between a A tag and B tag. Looks like B is for 6 days. Also is the A tags for idaho just over the counter for just that unit or is it divided like north / south like wa is east / west. Im really excited to chase idaho elk as I've wanted to for years now just didnt have anyone else willing to do it. Also im not asking for anybody's secret spots but is that area a good area to try? We plan on going ou1 this summer and hiking around to check it out but any recommendations of decent general areas would be appreciated.

For that unit I'd take the A tag, more time to hunt for the archery and you get the late muzzy and archery.  Only a few days allowed for rifle but the whole month of Sept. sounds damn good to me.

Most A and B tags are either archery rich, with modern being spike only or vise versa.  You just have to look at the regs for each unit.

B tag is for the rifle hunters, A tag is for Archery and Muzzy Hunters in the Panhandle.
B tag gets a short archery season and then a long rifle season.  A tag gets to hunt archery all September, A rifle season at the end of October after the B taggers, a Muzzy season in November, and then a later archery season in December.
A tag is really nice because we don't have to be around for the Zoo that is the B tag season.  Although I heard talk this year that they want to give B taggers a spike only Muzzy season at the beginning of October.  I hope they don't because that will effectively ruin the archery hunt.  Those dipsh*t B tag hunters always show up weeks in advance to get a camp spot and wont leave till the season is over.  If they do this, they will show up in August and wont leave till October.

Rant over. Get an A tag if you want to be in the woods as much as possible and have less of a crowd.  Lots of elk, start scouting and you will find a bull this year, I haven't failed to shoot an elk in the Panhandle since I started hunting 4 years ago.  Its a great meat tag and there are some nice bulls.

Great! Thank you for all the info on how the tags differentiate. All your guys information has been very helpful. Hopefully maybe my buddy can remove a wolf out of idaho too!
