Your Favorite Caliber For Deer
« on: January 01, 2009, 01:54:46 PM »
I was just curious to see what your guys' favorite deer caliber is and what rifle it is in.
I use a Remington Model 7 .243 win.
Thanks for any replies.

Whitetail = 243
Muledeer = 7mm mag

Animals World Wide = Mathews Bow  :chuckle:
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

When not using my Mathews bow I use one of my 7mm with a Nosler 140gr.

For deer, it's .280 Rem with either 140 grain Sierra Gamekings or 140 grain Hornady Interbonds.

I like to shoot 85 grain partitions out of my .243 but i also like to use my Ruger No.1 in .25-06. I load 100 grain ballistic tips for that

I love my Browning A-Bolt synthetic stalker in 25-06, shooting Federal 100 grain Nosler ballistic tips.  I haven't killed a deer with it yet, but my buddy used it to bag a muley doe on his antlerless permit.  Massive blood trail.  Blew out both lungs.

Remmy 700 BDL in .30-06 with Leupold Scope

A little heavy for some people to pack overnight with but I have not found any troubles lugging it around. Remington 700 is just a sturdy rifle. Scope never gets out of wack. Even submerged it in a river and still shot fine after navigating through endless vine maple shortly after that.

Remington 700 7mm w/ Leupold scope and a Pacific Research composite stock.
My son has a 270 w/ Leupold scope, composite stock. Both are great for deer, elk, and black bear.
Back up rifle, Winchester Model 70 (Pre 64) 30-06 w/ Leupold scope

Also, Mathews bow when using archery gear.
