hanging bear rugs
« on: January 01, 2009, 04:33:11 PM »
I was just looking at the "show us your bear rugs" thread and got to thinking.. I have a bear rug from a black bear my dad shot back in the late 60s. Im trying to figure out the best way to hang it on the wall with out messing it up.

Any suggestions?  :)

thumb tacks work good for most the bear rugs  people hang up. I had to put in a couple 10d for my 7 footer.

Nope. it was done a long time ago. I could look again, but I do not think it does.

You shouldn't tack through the felt to the wall.  It will eventually tear up the felt.

The Rug should have hangers.  If not you should have some put on.  Tacks through the felt are to keep the hide against the all.  The hangers hold the weight.

Ive never seen them with hangers?  Ill have to look into these hangers.  I have tacked the under the first layer, then you cant see them.  Stapled before at the old house and that worked, when I took the rug down and pulled the staples out there was an outline of the rug on the wall were the staples were, kinda funny.  I have heard the rugs will sag after a while and should be rotated after time, not sure if this is true but with gravity Im sure it is.

Yes hangers can be added.  They will have to be sewed on.  Are not really all that expensive to have done.  And yes Rugs will sag over time.  Staples and tacks on the felt can and will cause the felt to stretch and tear.

All my Bear Rugs come with hangers.  One in each paw, one in the head, and one in the tail.  Their are 6 in total!
