This was one of my birds from 2103, nicknamed him "Tom Spurrier". My longest to date, an honest[/b] 1-1/4"

What's the deal with the spurs? Is that like a horn on a Rhino as far as growth and maturity? Is it used for fighting?  :dunno:

... you can tell how much turkey hunting I've done

Hey Bean, you're right - they are a sign of maturity and really come in handy when establishing who's boss. I've bagged younger gobblers with cuts in there breast, and on there legs from fighting. Spurs that aren't sharp will leave a bruise. Sharp spurs go a long ways when establishing dominance.

Got to be very careful picking a good gobbler up ... they start flopping and you're heading to get stitches.  :yike:    :bdid:

Nice trkykilr! We have to wait until April 15th for our opener, I'm sure you know.
Looks like a good early morning hunt. I'm barely into the woods by 9:00 AM, but we can hunt all day. Several gobblers have fallen between 10:00 and 6:00, I'm just not a fly-down type of hunter.
Good work - keep us posted.
