Just the facts
« on: March 28, 2015, 10:12:56 AM »
I took my WT deer to Cascade Taxidermy Nov 2013. After 12 months I called to check on the progress and was told a couple more months. After 16 months I showed up at the shop to see if it was done. I was again told that it wasn't done, and would be another month. I had a bad feeling about the situation after seeing the condition of the business and asked to get my hide and horns back. I was told there were no refunds on my $280 deposit and agreed, assuming that the hide had at least been tanned. I shortly found out after thawing the hide that absolutely nothing had been done, other than caping the head and putting it in a freezer for 16 months! I then called and left a message demanding a full refund based on no work being done at all. I received a "text" message stating that Nathan was filing bankruptcy, closing the "biz" and there would be No refund! I would strongly suggest that if anyone has anything at Cascade that they go down there and check things out for themselves! I can understand getting behind, but Nathan is far from being a good taxidermist or business owner! I have since taken my deer to Mike at Nature's Way. He was sympathetic to my situation and I have full confidence in him and his work! Hope this is helpful to anyone with a similar problem.

Hopefully you now have the right person for the job.

(1) I had a similar issue with a MT. Goat. after a year I just asked him to give it to me and I would take it some place else. It was done with in a month. The guy did great work. He did a cougar for me in a timely manner prior to the cougar. I think he went on to just do safari taxidermy job only. Great job on both.

(2) I had another person, a young motivated, starting out he did an elk, bear, deer, and another MT. Goat for me then moved on to Texas.

(3) So, I was looking for another person and it was to do something simple a European Elk.  I don't have a pot big enough for a elk skull. (heck even I can have a deer done in a week) The person had issue after issue, it was over a year and another elk season had come an gone, crap I think is was after Christmas, January I just went over and got it. The skull was done, but it wasn't mounted to a board, They offered to mount it to a board, but I really didn't want to give it another year. Yep, not the person that I want for Taxidermy.

So what is a reasonable wait time? six months? nine months? a year? After a year I have just about forgotten about what I had in and looking to hunt up some new stuff. I think a reasonable time is what ever you and the taxidermist agree to, any of the above times. I also think there ought to be a price reduction for any time over the agreed time barring of course any acts of God that would temporiarly set things back. Taxidermist might dis agree but some one working out of there house just does not have the space to do volume business. I do recommend hunter stash money on the side incase you get lucky, nothing is cheep anymore.

Person #1 knew what he was doing, I think I was in his shop once and there was a stack of ten bears done @ back then price 500.00 each. He couldn't seem to get a head.

Person # 2 as said motivated, he had plan, a productions system where he seemed to keep everything in motion (he also had the room for this). Also, he would call you, not you calling the taxidermist. I wish this person was back.

Person # 3 I gave them a shot and was not impressed and I will be looking for someone else.

I have be lucky I have a hunting partner who a waited over two years for a simple deer mount. Get this, a couple of times.

Me, I couldn't do it, aw, maybe I could just do horns and euros. But full out production taxidermist you need to be moving from project to  project while keeping other projects moving and looking ahead, nope way to busy for me.

There are only so many sunrises left.

That sucks. I have certainly had my fair share of bad taxi experiences. Rick at Cedar River taxi fixed another taxi's mistake on my last mount. I won't risk going to anyone but him now.
Hope you can get it up on the wall soon.

I have had a bear with a certain local taxi since 2011 and can't get it back or even get a message or phone call back.  After this experience I have lossed allot of faith in the credibility of the industry.  :bash:

These stories suck...

I called this guy (Nathan) a few weeks ago just to see what he was about. Left a message asking for P&A on a full strut turkey, he came back with a price and lead time, sounds like he is still in business to me. I never had any intention of giving him work, just wanted to see what all the hype was about. Take that info as you will.

Wow.  Telling.

Sorry to hear these stories all the time,All I can say about this is this Taxidermy profession must really be a cut throat business.Seems like every year people are slamming a different shop.Maybe they deserve it I dont know,Ive learned over the years that it all needs to be taken with a grain of salt and a little investigating can go a long way before you enter into any deals with any type of business.  :twocents:
