I'm wondering what options may be availble other than painting to change a scopes finish. I have a Leuopold VariX 3 that I really like on an older rifle. I'd really like to use it on a gun I plan to get in the future. It's gloss black, and I'd really rather it were matte finish or maybe a type of camo. Can you send them in to the factory and change the finish? Hydro dip? Ceracoat?
I'd like to hear if anyone has done any of these and are you happy with the results?

Hydrodip for sure, I assume they can be cerakoted or duracoated as well.

I have coated some ridiculously expensive optics and I cringe everytime I think about it :)

Yes it can be done, but it's very tough to put back to original.

I would just wrap it in cheap old cloth camo tape.
Easy to reverse, cheap.

+1 on the cloth tape wrap:

I used the cloth tape to wrap my homebrew aluminum rear rack extension I made on my dual sport bike.  I had to add a little aerosol spray adhesive to give the cloth a little help to stay on for long term, as the glue on the tape is sort of weak.  I bet with little effort this would make an ideal scope camouflage cover/wrap.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Eventually when I get the rifle I want it may have a camp stock. If so I'm thinking the hydro dip in a matching pattern will probably be the way I go. It sounds like the main concern with dipping scopes is if they're waterproof. I've never had a problem with my Leuopolds so I'm pretty sure it would be ok. From some of what I've read, the hydro dip can be removed, but I would assume it to be permanent if I went that route
