which vortex spotter from Elknut

Looking at the Vortex viper hd 15-45x65 or Razor hd 11-33x50
Both are open box/demo options. And within a few dollars of eachother.

Is the razor worth sacrificing the extra magnification

I won that viper hd and a buddy uas the razor 11-33. Both are nice glass but the razor gpass is better. Also that little razor scope is a featherweight. Superlight to pack if you are gonna take it far. All in what you want and will use it for.

2 completely different applications if you ask me.

I would not go with the Razor unless you only plan to use it backpack hunting.

The 33x is too limiting for general purpose use IMO.

It's not so much the 33x magnification but the 50mm objective. Like Jackelope said, that's a backpacking type spotter.

The Razor has better glass but 50mm is pretty small for all purpose scouting. A 65mm or 80mm would be bette4. At 25x the small spotter has a 2mm exit pupil which is pretty small.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

I would be using the spotter for bear hunting. Not so much as a backpack hunting spotter though...but I would be in some steep terrain With the option of hiking alot. I'd never been more than a couple mile to and from my truck Though.
Most areas I'm glassing are 300-1500 yards give or take. Aswell as the areas I'm deer hunting.

Size wouldn't be an issue. I would easily lug around a 20-60x80 spotter and not worry about it.

I just want to get the better option for the $580 price tag. If the razor would limit viewing ability that much I would definitely steer clear of that.

I wouldn't touch the little Razor for what you're wanting to use it for. It's a tiny, compact backpacking spotter. Won't fit your needs very well at all.
It's a great scope, but not what you're looking for.

LOL! Yes, the 11-33X50 is designed to be used for back packing! It does very well out to a bit over a mile for sizing critters up but after that one would need to jump up to its bigger brothers! (grin)
