« on: January 02, 2009, 08:47:17 AM »
Does any one own one or have an opinion of this rifle?   i am thinking of getting one to take along to wyoming next year,  we always go shoot praire dogs a day or two before deer and antelope season.  My wife still owes me a Christmas present i thought this would be perfect :IBCOOL:

I have had one for about 15 years. (Boy time flyies). I have the 308 model...

Basically the gun is fine...BUT I happen to be one of those very picky hand loaders that like to push the envelope....what I did not like was the fact that Remington gives a very long throat when they chamber the gun...In order to get my bullets to where they are .010" off the lands, I had to make them so long they would not go down the magazine....Shot some very small groups with the rifle, but as a single shot.

I also had a 22-250 barrel made, and the guy when I got the gun back he had a 1/12 twist in there. I had specified a 1/8 so I could shoot some heavy bullets...The slow twist is fine for light bullets (55gr) but not the 75 gr A-max I like. i have never put a round through that new barrel yet, and will take it off and sell it pretty soon.

Fun toy,,,,tell your wife to buy it.. :chuckle:

thanks for the relpys guys.  I have looked at varmint model also and the only reason i was thinking about the tactical over the varmint is that the varmint has a 1:12 twist rate and the Tactical has 1:9 twist rate and the tactical has a nicer stock they are both about the same price.  I really appreciate the replys and opinions keep them coming my mind is not made up yet.

There a nice gun but for there size they are heavy, Have you looked at other brands? Weatherby, Howa, Tikka, etc. all make great guns and are just as accurate.
