Any one ever hunted Chief Joseph wildlife area
« on: April 02, 2015, 09:50:17 AM »
Just browsing Washington on Google maps and saw Chief Joseph wildlife area way down in the south east corner basically with nothing around.  Has anyone hunted that area, I've hunted the tucannon around Dayton but not that far south.  I'm looking to shoot a whitetail this year to complete my Washington deer species.

I hunt the private property that borders that area. Mostly mulies there. Not many deer in the wildlife area with all the chukar hunters in there.

Looks like you posted this today at about 9 am, probably when most folks are working……not sure how fast you were expecting replies, but here is my experience, having grown up down there, maybe it will help.  Like the other person mentioned, I've seen primarily mulies down there. Some pretty nice country, pretty steep in spots, decent turkey hunting, although birds get pressured and will move to private ground, which I may be wrong but fairly certain permission is impossible. I'd recommend somewhere else, possibly Lick Creek, Tuchannon (if you your looking SE part of state).  But this unit is really is not a realistic choice for whitetails for me.  It is some pretty neat country down there. Good luck

If you do decide to go down there in the fall take a fishing pole with you. I always see guys packing out some nice steel head when we're hunting.
