I built this with Biggerhammer's help. It should be very effective on killing deer out to 500 yards, at least. I haven't fired it yet, but with the muzzle break, recoil should be very light. Here's the specs:

Hard to beat the 264 Winchester. Killed everything from chucks to elk with it. Anything bigger is barrel burning hype.just remember, stay away from 24" barrels. Minimum 26", better yet go for a 28"! In 24", its just a 270WSM...

In all reality you might want to look at a different chambering other than the .264 Winchester Maganum if your looking to improve upon your your current rifles performance chambered in .270 WSM. Right now for all purposes and hunting you already have the .264 Win Mag beat with your .270 WSM chambering.

The BC's on the .277 & .264 bullets in the same bullet and weight class are so close it isn't going to matter for your mentioned purpose and range. As a matter of fact the .270 WSM will out perform the .264 Win Mag with the same length barrel (24") and same weight bullet by 150-200 FPS which actually surpasses the .264 Win Mag.

This is a couple pics from Nosler 6th Edition. The .264 Win Mag was a "King" in its day and is a very capable chambering but when compared to the cartridge you already have (.270 WSM). It falls short due to the case design of the .270 WSM and the burn rates of the powders suitable for the WSM.

The .270 WSM as per the pages bellow is 173fps fast with the 130's and 216FPS faster than the 140's. When cross referenced with each other with the reloading information provided bellow. That's why the only .270 rifle I own is a Rem700 .270 WSM and its hell on Mulies.

If you must have the "Bigboy" chambering, the 26 Nosler would be your daisy.

I would opt for a 1/2 MOA capable AR chambered in .264 LBC and enjoy it. Blackhole Weaponry flat has their 8 twist .264 LBC's barrels dialed in! Bellow is a example(Pic) of the Blackhole barrels performance @ 100 yards from one of my 18" AR's chambered in .264 LBC. Building accurate AR's can become a addiction.

Another vote for Grendel here.  Mellow recoil, long reach.  Lot of 6.5 bullets available.  Fits Std AR15 lower, so if you have a decent AR lower already, just build up a 6.5 upper and buy a couple mags and you are done.  Only special parts are barrel, bolt and mags.

$300 Brownells barrel&bolt shoots .5moa if you do your part.  All the rest of the parts are standard AR.  I just mounted a PA 4-14x44 FFP ACSS  ($280, Awesome piece of glass, rivals the $500-700 glass I have seen) on mine and zero'd on Sunday.  Shot .527MOA until I jerked the last shot and ended with a 1.093MOA.

As long as PianoMan keeps his butt down south and leaves my sources of grendel ammo alone everything will be ok!!!

IMO I think your .270wsm is more then capable to longer than 700 yards. Shoot my lil .243 with 95gn VLDs has notched tags on muley bucks to 520yards with EXCELLENT results. Also shot my bear with the same load just under 400 shot it twice 1st shot was slightly back and 2nd dropped it like a sack of bricks. (quartered too, through front shoulder). I think you just want another toy. LOL

But, I really like the 6.5s, I reload for my brothers .260 and a buddies 6.5 Creedmoor and they are both excellent shooters with very little recoil.

I think for ranges in excess of 700 yards and the gun you have now. I would say it is not the ballistics as much as the consistency. Your cartridge is capable of very long range use. Many are, but is the rifle? To me Long Range equals "CONSISTANT" NOT TRAJECTORY, If you can predict the point of impact, or not. Why is the 308 so popular for sniper or target work? its not because of high speed or flat trajectory, it is predictable.

Would like to go to 1000. And it will be a full custom.

I assume you just mean to ring steel or target shoot to 1k?  Grendel is good out to 1200+, but it's effective big game hunting range is <500yrds.
Trajectories for grendel are very very similar to 308 but with low recoil and less $ in powder and bullets.  The numbers I ran show grendel being about .10-20/round cheaper.  Recoil on mine seems no stronger than a regular 223/556 AR.

The only way you're going to keep up with your 270 WSM is to go to a bigger case. The Grendel/LBC is a neat cartridge and hard to beat if you're sticking to an AR-15 style gun. If action style doesn't matter though, the Grendel couldn't keep up with the 270 WSM past 700 yards with a 2 day head start and an act of God!

If you want to keep it easy to shoot without a brake you'll either need to go with a heavy gun or a smaller caliber. I'm not exactly recoil shy, but I can shoot a 13# 6mm BR a lot better than a 10# 300 WSM. It's extremely hard to be consistent (which is the key to any precision shooting) when you're getting rocked out of your shooting position at every shot. If you want to keep the gun at a packable weight (>10# for me)  I'd look at the 6.5x284 Norma. I'm partial to the original 284 Win but the 6.5 version is arguably better. If weight isn't a big concern then go big!

If factory ammo or components aren't an issue, I have a 270 Ultra Mag reamer sitting in my drawer. Run that into a 30", 8" twist barrel with the Matrix 165gr bullet at 3400 fps and you'd be good to go! If you want fast, my 270 ultra moves the 140gr bullets at over 3600 fps. It's a shame that the BC isn't better on those bullets.

If your gonna go full custom its hard to beat a 7mm for long range shooting why not go with whats dominating F class 284 shehane or maybe a 280AI. both are non magnums so recoil wont be a factor. I am currently waiting on a 280AI barrel and hoping to push a 168 berger to 3000 fps or close to it.
For long range shooting I prefer a brake on my rifles so I can spot my shots and make my corrections. you just need some hearing protection.

I think you will do great to stay with the old classic 264. Modern powders and projectiles make for an amazing combo. Some may comment against it here, in part they want to burn more powder in a bigger case for not so much improvement, or just because I personally think it's a great round and they just want to argue against for the sake of . ..
It will be your gun, go with what you want, be it a Grendel or the Win mag. Its your Money and your gun, right?😊

I will hunt with the gun so I don't want it to end up to heavy. Also absolutely will not but a brake on it. Had one on one gun and my ears rang for a week after shooting a deer. I fine with some recoil. I see Nosler came out with a new  142 grain ABLR in the .264 with a BC of .719. Thought I might have something decent pushing that out of the .264 win mag around 3100 FPS?

youll get much more accurate results running the g7 bc instead of the g1

G1 BC's are for flat base bullets. G7 are for boat tails, it will make a difference past 500 yards.
