What's your favorite method for calling and why?

My self I am ok with a slat or glass but I can't do a diaphragm call to save my neck. But my favorite is the box call!  Why? Because I'm good with a box call and that just makes it more enjoyable for me. Plus I have a very good sounding call. My friends call it the magic box but it's just a cheap promos that I tuned a little. My brother is starting to build up his calls and it got me thinking about how I developed my calling preferences.  What about the rest of you?

Diaphram works for me, but when they go silent it seems the old box call gets them back in thr game..  I to have a cheapo that works wonders.

Love working birds with pot style calls from either far away or up close and personal, on windy days then I break out the loud n raspy box call.

Glass has worked the best for me, but I have a gobbler call (for locating) and a box for windy days. It's amazing how far turkeys can hear with very lite calling.

All of the above.  Some birds will only respond to a certain type of call on a given day, so if you only use one type of call, you are severely limiting yourself.  That being said, I usually have a diaphragm call in my mouth at all times, especially if I am working a bird.  I'm a "run & gun" type, so I rarely use a blind.  Because of that, a good deal of the time I need to be able to work the bird without producing movement.  The bottom line is, don't get lazy and only rely on one call.   Know how to use them all and mix it up.

BTW, the same goes for locator calls.

I have others I play around with but the above will be in my vest. I can not make a mouth call work so I do not waste my time on them.

I voted diaphram, but would chose aluminum over slate or glass/crystal like you have listed. Since you have only list basically 3 types of calls, maybe you should  combine  those into a friction call choice. Just a thought.

I love my Primos "Heartbreaker" box call, have killed many big toms with it. The cool thing is it was personally signed and tuned by Will Primos himself! I got this call as a gift from my father and it's my go to call.

I use the Primos Wetbox call, and then switch to a diaphragm when they start to get close.

I like to carry two Cody slate calls, one of which is slate and the other is glass. I carry 3 different strikers, two are wood and the third is acrylic. Quite the versatility of sounds from this combo as well as waterproof with the acrylic on glass. As mentioned above, I too have a diaphragm in my mouth at all times. My fave is the Primos Limb Hanger. I also carry many others, from single reed to cut up triple reeds. High pitched clean sounds to raspy, nasty boss hen sounds. I primarily hunt Merriam's, which tend to be higher pitched and typically less raspy. When I use a real raspy call, I believe that Merriam toms think I am a jake or sub-adult that is yelping in response to being pushed around by a more dominant tom. Sometimes those calls cause an incoming tom to become more reluctant to commit unless he's itching for a fight. I have also used my own voice to spit & drum to a bird that is hanging just on the fringe, icing on the cake...sometimes.

I've used all with success --- boxes, slate/glass pot calls, mouth diaphragms, wing bone, tube calls, scratch boxes and push-pulls.  If I use one type in the morning, I will use a different one later morning, a different one, early afternoon and a different one later in the evening.  I also have several of each kind and will change up at least every few hours even if using the same type call.  It's like fishing ... find out what they're biting on ... if they're not biting or stop biting, switch your lure.  Sometimes they like to listen to rock and roll, sometimes the blues, sometimes country, etc.
