Dog food?

I get the kirkland brand dog food from costco for my two labs. They seem to do well on that and I supplement it with fish oil tablets for their coats. I also give them some eggs or left over meat when I can for some extra protein.

THis is EXACTLY what I do for my GSP.

And I don't want to hear anyones take on how Costco food killed their friends, aunts, boss', third grade teachers poodle. 
Any dog can have an issue with any food.

My breeder friend uses this as does my best friend as did I when I had big dogs (and I was a rep for another high end brand)  What I look for more than anything else is NO corn, soy or wheat.
If I had big dogs and a costco card I would use the kirkland food again.

We've got our dog on Taste of the Wild.  Spendy but her coat and teeth are in top shape.

I used to be a TOTW fan, but the company that makes the food for them has had too many salmonella cases for me to be confident in them any longer.

I used to have my lab on natures domain. He did great on for about 2 years then we must have hit a bad bag or something and he refused to eat it. We have since switched him to Fromm Gold and am very pleased. Aside from the one bag of natures domain i don't have any complaints about it either.

We use Nutro natural select. Our GSP loves it and has been doing well with it. Wellness products are excellent as well. My parents had an old yellow lab that they adopted when she was 8. She was overweight and had joint issues. Once they switched her over to Wellness she got back to her ideal weight and was able to come off of her meds. She was able to run around like a pup again till she died at age 12.

I use any of the NutriSource grain free favors. My GSP loves them all and a great calorie count 440-475 per cup.

Learning to read an ingredients label helps greatly in choosing a quality feed.
One of the bigger reasons for feeding quality feed is having to feed less of it to attain the same nutrition.  Fewer & smaller piles to clean up too.

I feed my dogs Purina pro plan.

We had been feeding Amber Iam's but switched to Purina One Natural Instincts because it seemed like good quality and it was on sale.  She LOVED it but had poor results (meaning diarrhea).  So we switched to high-quality Merrick's with more poor results (although again, she LOVED it).  Tried a Purina One sensitive recipe with poor results (also LOVED it...more diarrhea).  Finally Purina Pro Plan seems to suit her system well, and she loves it.  I am ordering it from Amazon.

My GSP's are also on the Kirkland brand, salmon and sweet potato,they do very well on it. I'll blend in some extra protein on hard hunting days but that's it. Not sure if it's related but the dog I take to Alaska for the summer will catch and eat sockeye and pinks.

I was on natures domain for quite some time but switched 6 months ago to Fromm food. I like the quality and the smaller family companies. Only two factories in Wisconsin. My dog loves it.

I go for taste of the wild, but anything grain free is good for the dog. It seems like raw is ideal from what i've read

I had to ditch TOTW my pup wouldn't stay up to weight looked like I wasn't feeding her, looked like a sack of bones.

Now I'm using Victor high energy and the pup looks great, gobs of energy.  Almost immediate difference when I switched feeds.  Something in TOTW wasn't working for this dog.  It's good feed, but you have to experiment with feeds some dogs do better or worse on different feeds.

Another britt I had died young 6yrs old      she was eating Loyal.  Had lesions growing all over under her skin.  No idea what killed her nor does the vet,  she was in there a lot getting pus pockets cut out and testing, xrays.   I can't blame the feed, but that was what she was eating.   I won't buy it again *just in case*
