Any coon hunters with curs in W. WA?

Im getting a catahoula pup this weekend. I was wondering if there are any members in Western Washington that coon hunt with curs than might be interested in running dogs together next 2015-2016 season. I have had black mouths and MT curs prior to living moving to Washington. This is time i will be coon hunting in this state. Also anyone in the area regardless of what type of dog the hunt with I would appreciate it if i could get a few pelts for her to introduce her to until she is big enough to get at a caged coon

Please don't take what I'm about to ask the wrong way.  I'm just curious why you got a cattle dog for hunting coons?  Also don't be suprised if guys with hounds don't want you to hunt with them since Catahoulas can be a bit aggressive at the tree with other dogs.  They can be dog fighters in the box and can be very game possesive, so make sure you watch the personaility of your pup when you get him/her.  Hopefully you get one that is a little laid back in that area.  Good loyal dogs, just not bred to be hunters.

No, offence taken machias. I got a stock dog because I need a stock dog. They will do that work and coon hunt just fine. Both her parents are very laid back and both coon hunt. Id rather train her to be a decoy dog for coyotes but that is illegal in Washington. I am not interested in hunting with hounds that is also why I am specifically looking for a hunting partner that has curs.

No but we have introduced Lacey to penning sheep. She has an incredible herding and driving instinct. I have pretty much given up on the idea of coon hunting with her due to the of lack of land and small community of hunters on this side of the mountains. I have given pelts to her a number of times. She has interest in the pelts and will track a drag trail.  My wife and I have started working with her to track seek-check it-find it type method. Over the weekend she worked a human scent, a deer blood and a coon track. she found the end each time with some guidance.

Besides the herding and tracking work we have been working with her on obedience. She knows look, hand target, come, sit, down, wait and we are working on leave it. She is a very smart and a high drive puppy. She is very friendly and about as accepting of human strangers as any of the other curs we have had in the past. She really likes kids and plays well with other dogs. She is well behaved and calm in the house. Her only issue is she will cry if I leave her alone for a period longer than 15 mins. Crate training has been a struggle with Lacey since day one.

Sounds like she is doing good!  You should think about teaching her to find sheds.  I went to a seminar this weekend on this topic and I bet she would do well at that.

Its no big deal but I was wondering why you dont want to hunt with anybody that has hounds? Just curious-sounds like your dog is doing great. I have a corgi that loves to herd but I havent spent any time teaching her how to do it right or with direction. It would be nice to have a well trained stock dog

Idaho guy-
Every time i have taken a cur out with coon hounds the end result is the same.  Hounds and cur go out my cur comes back to check in 30 mins later and spends the rest of the hunt moping at my feet.

I plan on giving the shed hunting a try with Lacey. My dad is sending me a few out of my collection in Ohio.

Get some Rack Wax, the trainer said it really helps when training the dog to find sheds.  Nice looking cur!

did your dog know the hounds or were they strangers? some dogs(hounds included) wont hunt with a dog they dont know for half a dozen times then all the sudden they will go hunt with them. i have hounds and curs and they hunt together everytime i go hunting. They have different strengths and weaknesses but they work very well togther, for example my hound is alot colder nosed and can run longer distances and is  a better strike dog but my curs are honestly smarter/better locate dogs if they tree its there and they haul @ss on a hot track and can really make quick work of things, cur dogs dont need to be on a leash or fenced in they no to stay home and they mind better. to me its a perfect combo.
