Alaknak all the way we have the 12x20, and love it there was one in the classifieds on here.  We had a carpet cut to the dimensions of the tent, and it really makes it comfy.  The only pain in the butt to set up is the vestibule, but only the first time.

I do like the Alaknak.  I'm just concerned it would be too much pain for my wife and I to set up on weekend trips.
The bighorn with vestibule that i found supposedly was only used twice then put in storage for 4 years.

You guys think $700 is a good deal on that?  New would be around $1200.

I bought a brand new bighorn iii that I found on cl for $500 and cabelas has them for $950. Ended up buying the vestibule, floor liner and roof protector as well. My old man and I set it up in my yard for the first time last weekend and it took us about a half hour but after the first go around of a few mistakes and having to read the directions it should go much faster now. I am sure you and your wife could set it up on your own in the matter of 15-20 minutes.

This one includes Vestibule and floor liner.  So $700 isn't bad but $500 would be better

$500 was the tent itself and with the other stuff we are in about $900 but it is the III and not the two and all is brand new. $700 sounds like a good deal to me.

I originally was after a Alaknak and didn't even know about the Bighorn till i spotted one on CL.  I think i'm going to stick with the 12x20 Alaknak.  If anyone wants to sell or spots one, let me know.
The one that was on here a couple weeks ago is gone as far as i know.  It's not listed anymore.

:yeah: We bought the green "all weather" carpet at home depot. Cheap and works good. We used to have regular carpet but it was bulky to store.

We thought about going the carpet route but ended up just buying the floor liner. I wasn't sure if we needed it but after setting it up for the first time I am glad we did because the floor in the bighorn isn't real thick so this will be an extra layer. Not to mention it will make it much easier to clean.

Cough, Kodiak canvas, cough, one man five minute setup cough comes with the most heavy duty floor of any tent cough, cheaper new than the others used, cough.

Carry on in the thin walled tent thread.  :P

I use a large painting drop cloth in my alaknak for a floor liner.

I just recently bought an Alaknak II and have taken it out a couple of times over the last couple of months.  I love the tent.  I was having a hard time deciding between the alaknak and a Montana Canvas but when I found a 12x20 alaknak new in the box at cabelas in the bargain section deeply discounted, I bought it. I have not had any issues with it thus far.  I bought the vestibule for it and the floor protector.  The tent takes about 20 minutes to erect.  The first night I used it rain was dumping on us in the blues, wind was gusting around 30. The tent did not move and it was completely dry on the inside.  There are a lot of people who told me to just get a canvas tent, but I decided to go with the newer technology and have ZERO buyers remorse at this point.  I really look forward to putting this tent through its paces during elk season this year.

Scored a 12x20 Alaknak with 2 vestibules, Colorado cylinder stove with 5 gallon water tank, roof protector, floor liner, and even a new in box portable propane shower. Pretty excited!!
