Multi Season permit
« on: April 17, 2015, 04:39:50 AM »
Probably has been covered but, if said permit holder decides to only put in for special permits for one weapon can he/she hold off of purchasing the MS tag till after the drawing results are out?

that does not make sense, why put in for a multi tag if you hunt with only one weapon?   the multitags winners should have several weeks to buy the tags and then have a redraw for the remaining mutitags who were not purchased.  the way it is now the winners have 3 months to decide, the way I read it.   mike w

It does make sense. That may be the strategy I use. I'll get the modern deer tag, apply for a couple of the quality hunts, and if drawn for one of those I'll save $140 and not buy the multi-season tag. If I don't draw a quality permit I'll buy the multi-season. I see no need to have both.

I thought you had to declare before you could submit a permit application.

you do.  But you can buy an eastside archery tag and apply for the quality eastside archery hunts and if drawn skip the Multi and hunt east archery on the permit.  If not drawn buy the multi and hunt all general seasons.

Thought you couldn't change your tag if you applied for special permits.

I would think that the multi is valid to buy until august 31st regardless if you apply.  But maybe your right.   :dunno:

You do. So if you want you can buy your multi before you put in for permits and apply in different weapon categories. But if you are like me I bought my deer tag before multi were drawn so I declared rifle since those will be the only special permits for deer I will be putting in for. Like said before if I don't draw and quality deer permits then I will turn in my modern tag for a multi tag

Can you turn it in after you have put in for permits? I know you can't switch weapon choice after. I.E put in for rifle permits then switch to archery if not drawn. Not sure if that applies to the multi season tag or not.

No you cant. If you put in for rifle. You are stuck with rifle unless you have the option to buy a multi. But I think if you buy a rifle tag and don't put in for any special permits you can change it up until Aug 31

you should have to buy the multitag in may.  that way the redraw winners can apply for special permits.  aug 31 is a long time to make up your mind.  ps.  I am whining cuz I never drew the multi-  and am waiting for the redraw which is 4 months away.    mike w

I do the same thing for deer. I have 19 points and if I don't draw my quality tag I'll get the MS permit but if I get a quality permit I'm not buying MS tag. Whoops, that's
For deer, I'd buy the elk MS permit first so I could apply for ML and
Archery tags.

Thanks for the info.  Much appreciated.  I planned on only putting in for only quality Westside rifle hunts and don't want to have to fork out the $180 if I happen to get drawn. This state already rapes you enough for hunting fees.

Why do you all keep saying the multi-season tag has to be purchased by the end of August? The deadline is July 31st this year. Unsold tags go up for sale after that, first come first serve.

Because that is what is in the 2014 regulations:

"If selected, multi-season tags will be available to purchase any time prior to September 1."

...and that is what is also in the WAC:

http://app.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?cite=232-28-294

(b) Successful applicants will be allowed to purchase their permit at any time prior to September 1st.

If they changed it effective this year, it would be "mid stream" since September 1 was the published and legal deadline when people applied this year.

Advocating?  :dunno:

Not at all. All I'm wondering about is the deadline for buying the multi-season tag. I don't know how that is me trying to make the WDFW look good.   ???

Apparently I have been posting incorrect information. Will multi-season tags be sold over the counter this year? Apparently not, I thought that was the case, but I guess that won't happen until 2016?

And the deadline is still the end of August, not the end of July? I'm glad actually. That gives me more time to decide if I want to buy it or not.

Well, it won't be a draw, they will put the unsold tags up for sale, first come, first serve. But now it's sounding like that won't be an option until next year.   :dunno:

No, not a train wreck. This is how we get this stuff figured out. Post some incorrect info, and someone will correct you.

I actually have not had time yet to look at the new reg's. I did download it to my computer but that's as far as I got.

From what Bob33 is saying, it sounds to me like this year will be the same as last year. Buy your multi-season tag by the end of August. And unsold tags will not be sold over the counter.

Last week, the WDFW Game and Fish Commission approved a change to the purchase deadline and allocation of unused multi-season permits. What is not certain is when the changes will be implemented. Since the 2014-2015 multi-season process was already established, indications are that the changes will not occur until the 2015-2016 multi-season process is in effect.

If I were drawn for a 2015 multi-season permit, I wouldn't risk waiting until August 31 although all indications are that the purchase deadline this year is prior to September 1.

It's important for the WDFW to notify people especially since the deadline has always been a month later. There will probably still be lots of people who wait until August to buy it and then find out they can't.
