I don't know about anyone else but I plan on being apart of the elk slaughter in the Margaret unit this year for modern fire.

:yeah: That unit is not what it once was in the 90s. Some of the areas that still hold some good bulls are still draw hunts.  There will be a few good bulls taken from the tree farm for sure but I think the masses that flock there and buy a pass will be largely disappointed.  I think this is just a money grab by Weyco with the fee access and has little to do with providing opportunity or even herd management.

It's funny how people think it's just gonna be this great hunt because it was a draw for so long.  There's a reason it's not a draw unit.  Besides the numbers it's a ton of deprod.  Probably gonna be a zoo I hope so that means less people in the unit I hunt ; )

I wouldn't waste my time in the Margaret.  Unless you like hunting reprod and with ton of people.

It's going to be an amazing hunt. Especially for archery, everyone with a west side archery elk tag should hunt there. Garanteed trophy class bull if you do, I mean dan Agnew himself bribed public officials to get it open up for his own personal trophy hunting grounds . Go get um boys

Not sure who Mr. Agnew is, but it seems he isn't too popular on here.

With the later archery season this year, it will be crawling with arrow fingers.  Hopefully a few will be left afterwards.

Didn't pick up on the sarcasm huh? In all seriousness I do hope this unit takes a ton of hunters this year releaving pressure in other units. Where I hunt I never have to worry about a ton of pressure but the type of hunters that will just blindly flock to this unit since now it's "finally open!! " deserve the zoo they'll create and the rest of us can enjoy our elk season just a little more

Here's the real question--how much will more Weyerhaeuser charge over last year for a permit??  Bet they will jack up the price or spin off the Margaret as a separate permit.  Supply and demand, right.  Oh, I forgot, the whole permit deal isn't about making money and selling the public's wildlife, it's all about garbage dumping...

They did jack up the price- by $10.00.

It was $150 last year. This year it's $160, with a limit of 5,000 permits.

Does Weyco allow camping on the St Helens tree farm if you pay for an access permit?  If they allowed camping I think it would be worth the price.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.
